No aftershocks felt where I was today. Perhaps I just can't feel them anymore, I don't know... Noticed on my way to work that the gas stations were still out of gasoline and kerosene. Had the radio on at work listening to reports that radiation levels are getting higher and higher. There was supposed to be a power cut in my area today from noon until 1630, but that never happened.

Went to where I was teaching today at about 1400, as reports were still coming in of higher levels of radiation. I taught one class, then the rest were cancelled as they are recommending in some areas not to go outside as a precaution.

I went in search of bottled water, a flashlight and batteries, only for none to be found anywhere. I did managed to get a few bottles of soda water, so that may have to do if the water gets cut off or contaminated.

I hope that I don't have to go to work tomorrow. It's so hard to concentrate on teaching with everything going on. The prefecture I live in has been rather lucky, considering we are on the east side of Japan. We are expecting rain, however. Rain is not a good thing right now.

I read there's been another fairly heavy quake near Tokyo.

it was in shizuoka, and it shook my house.

My mate is FINALLY leaving the North for Osaka in the morning, complete with his (6-month pregnant) wife Akiko.

In the meantime - there is an amazing benefit album being put together by the likes of Helios, Arms and Sleepers and Hammock to benefit the Japanese Relief Effort.

Awesome ambient AND helping our friends in the East? Gotta be a solid WIN:WIN.

There was no power this morning between 0930 and 1230. I still can't find gasoline. We had to work and schools were open as usual. I think its the only thing people can do. There are so many people North-East of me in far more terrible conditions.

I really don't know what is going on with the news anymore. I've had so much of it I can't comprehend the situation. Earthquakes, radiation infrastructures. My whole world is Japan right now, but for a respite I read about how the middle east is in turmoil.

I actually found some batteries, a flashlight and some small candles today. I cant believe I bought the wrong size of the rationed batteries for the flashlight. I'm not sure I'm thinking straight sometimes.

Emperor on TV, the Chinese government donating mass quantities of fuel to Japan. Truly a strange day.

I wont have power from 0600 until 1000 JST tomorrow. Making sure everything is charged (cell phones) and ready.

My wife sent me a surprise "survival package" which I received in the mail today. She really is one in a million. I'm so lucky to have her.

Stay strong and stay safe fella. Can't even begin to imagine what it must be like.

Thanks for all the updates out of Japan, it's good to hear first-hand reports. They've left a deep impression on me, it must be a very tough situation. I've tried imagining how I would survive in those conditions the past days, but my thoughts just keep circling without an end.

Its honestly quite scary, my sister travelled some of the world this year, everywhere she has gone there has been trouble. Scary time to have loved ones abroad or in trouble stricken countries. I sincerely hope that everyones friends and families are safe and away from trouble. This year has already produced some serious natural disasters. I hope everyone in Japan recovers as soon as possible.

There's a huge difference between making a joke and then recycling that joke over and over and over again knowing full well the offence it will cause to many people. And then using the tradegy to promote your own fucking book is hideous. He's a fucking cunt.

Not really, and I guess I don't have that low of compassion towards others as a whole, but I do have a dark sense of humor.

I still stand by Gilbert's right to make those jokes, and also remember that saying "too soon" is just as offensive as saying the joke itself.
