I'm not being a snob, and I'm certainly not trying to attack anyone's taste. I drink my fair share of light beer. I was just confused as to whether people were posting their favorite lighter beers or if they were truly unaware of some of the better beers out there.

it's not the idea of partying or getting drunk, but just being able to enjoy the varied world of beers, and all of the more intricate flavors and uhh

I like my beer like I like my women. Thick, dark, and chunky. So, I'm always down for a Guinness. Ninkasi makes some good stuff. Lots of the Widmer Brothers beers, though not dark, are usually very tasty. Not to mention they are local. They make one kind called Wild Blue that has a really subtle blueberry taste that overrides most of the unsavory parts of beer like bitterness and skunky aftertaste. I could drink gallons of it.

i'm from southern california and there's a little brewery down here called Stone. they are absolutely incredible. their IPA and smoked porter are so freaking delicious. and their restaurant is unbelievable as well. everything about Stone is amazing. haha

After having done a fair share of beer tasting, admittedly all in the states which I am pretty aware is debatable for great beers, I have netted out on red ales for the most part. My two favorites at the moment are smithwicks and moosedrool (a brown ale from missoula). On the light side I usually have Kirin or Kirin light when I get sushi.

Happiness is - finding a forgotten can of Guinness in the fridge!

That's because you're drinking American beer. Seriously, come to Canada and we'll show you what real beer tastes like.

Actually I take back what I said about American Beer. I think probably the reputation persists due to prohibition and having only 40 macro breweries left back up through the 70's. In the last 25 years there has been an uptick in another 2000 breweries mostly specialty and micro brews.

Probably American beer stands about where American (namely Californian) wineries stood in the 70's. Which wasn't favored but were still very excellent beating out quite a few french wines.

American Pale Ale, American Strong Ale, Imperial IPA, California Common, and Blonde Ale are distinctly American Beers and many are excellent. Stella Artois, Grolsch, Harp, Becks, Heineken aren't that great.
Also alcohol content in many of the beers here are higher than people realize got example Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale - 6.6% Deschutes Jubelale - 6.7%. Belgian beers hit some of the highest marks but on average our content is higher than people may realize.

I think the problem is also one of importing. I wish we had access to many of the other great foreign beers not the crap I listed above. During my high school days I can definitely attest to having having only shitty beers around.

I think Grolsch is an excellent beer.

I'm definitely glad that I live in Canada, where the beer is awesome.

It really depends on the type of beer you like or drink. I honestly think the system in Ontario is pathetic (LCBO/Beer Store), but if Bud, Miller, Molson or Labatt are your thing then you are in heaven.

Even the best craft Canadian beers have a tough time getting shelf space in the LCBO and Beer Store. There are some good beers coming along more and more thankfully. The only thing that sucks is the hoarders who end up buying a huge amount of the stock leaving no chance for someone like myself to try unless I feel like making a road trip to Oakville or Toronto.

There is still way too much that needs to be done and change to make Canada a good beer country.

There is always a nice variety locally where I am, here in the Ottawa Valley. The only thing I can complain about is the price for the good stuff. Alcohol is sooo much cheaper in some countries, like Mexico, Germany, most of Europe for that matter. We're paying through the teeth for alcohol taxes. It's retarded.
