I don't understand what's everyones deal with TCHP, it's my favourite BOC album but not many people seem to like it.
It was the follow-up to what is arguably their most intricate and meaningful album, and it disappointed a lot of people, that's why.
Not me, I really enjoy most of TCH, but I can acknowledge it was a step down from Geogaddi.

I think everyone is entitled to their own ideas about which records are the most successful. Although I think it is unfair to label TCH as 'crapped out'. Quite clearly a lot of effort has gone into making that record. The attention to detail is unreal and you dont need to be a studio gear head to spot that. Also the whole idea of it being 'straight' I wouldn't wholly agree with. On the surface yes, it sounds more conventional and might appeal to a broader audience, but there's a load of really weird shit going on within those tracks that doesn't jump out immediately in much the same way as it did on the earlier records. It probably was their intention to make something that on the surface is accessible, but that serves as a decoy for something altogether stranger happening within the tracks.
My personal favourites are the earlier records but that's probaly only because they represent a special time for me, but that doesn't mean that TCH is redundant. I'd definitely find it more interesting that they'd be attempting something new always.

Oh, holy shit. You spelled "you're" properly in this context. That's a first witness for me regarding this particular sort of comment. Great job.

Your opinions in

Also, I know what the doppler effect as well as nostalgia are. I mean, what is the culmination of those two terms? How does that have anything to do with MHTRTC? Also, I'm not sure I heard the doppler effect even once in MHTRTC.

I'd rather say Geogaddi was a step down from MHTRTC and TCHP I'd rank about on the same level as Geogaddi respectively, both great albums.. And by the way just as a side note, there is absolutely nothing folk or "folktronica" about TCH...

Thank you.
Not sure why the common consensus is "acoustic guitars + drum machines and synths = folktronica".

Did the internets always haveded the "oh look, people are having a semi-serious discussion online about something important to them that isn't important to me so I'm going to make a cocky comment to imply they are whining and wasting free time" people like this?

but you aren't arguing over something that is important to you but not to me; I have opinions on the Campfire Headphase too but I recognize them as opinions, and not group consensus. These last few pages have been "I don't at all care for TCH" vs "TCH is teh gr8st, you're full of it" and it's an uninteresting, unwinnable argument in that context; If there was elucidation on why TCH was good or bad, that'd be a much more entertaining read than "It's shit" / "No it isn't" / "yes it is" / back and forth, over and fucking over. Gods damn.
Also, way to step up your game R. d3v3l has been giving you a real run for your money as 'worst boarder on twoism' but I think you beat him out here.
and lastly folktronica would refer to song structure + instrumentation, rather than just instrumentation.

"Worst boarder on Twoism."
Really? You honestly think I'm that bad? I'm flattered. Although, I'd appreciate you state my full name instead of hiding behind the first letter so that way I could receive full credit.
Seriously though, while I agree most of this discussion has been stupid, I tend to just have a pet peeve of sorts with the kind of comment you made. No hard feelings against you, personally, it's something I observe throughout the internet.
Initially, I had guessed that MOST LIKELY, the people on this board posting would not respond they way they did to the various jokes, incoherent off-topic posts and overly-exaggerated false stories posted as of recently, as ridiculous they might be, since we're talking about a basically dead (atm) band who has blown off their fans quite staggeringly. We'd reached a point here where we've discussed
Boards of Canada dog and panda puns. Seriously.
Apparently though, we're still too uptight that somebody cannot post an observation about an album sounding (excuse me, sounded) different to them without a backlash of unrelated "TCH SUCKS" nonsense. Apparently we're still too uptight that people, disagreeing with the stupidity, cannot respond and criticize those who started it without being called "nerds arguing over soundwaves". And, apparently we're still too uptight that making a criticism of said comment results in being "the worst boarder on Twoism".
Maybe I'm just too confused from sleep deprivation, but I see something extremely unnecessary here. It's unfortunate that this whole thing started to begin with, but it's even more unfortunate that people feel the need to escalate it.

The so-called "folktronica" rarely has clear or defined structures, and if it has, it's pretty much always standard pop song structures.

let's just keep folktronica out of this, and out of existence for that matter.

i seriously don't get you. i try to be nice to you but you're like a brick wall and take everything i say at face value. i guess tool does that to people.
see, now i know you're gonna be upset because i badmouthed tool again. i'm just some dude from poland, why do you even care? let's chill out and talk some music.
as for doppler-effect, here's a quote form the band, i hope you'll believe them more than you believe me:
You know when you're on a ride at a fairground, the pitch of the music rises and falls because of the Doppler-Effect? That's another thing we love to do in our tracks, and it's a fairly psychedelic-sounding effect too."
