Yes! Very well put, Mex! I never knew enough about the guy to be one of those who said he was great by any stretch of the imagination. In comparison, he was no more great than any other psychopathic dictator. From a different perspective however, I think the respect he gets comes from the fact that he kept his people in check through methods of fear. He became respected because you didn't dare question him. He kept his people "safe and secure" because if you fucked up, you got FUCKED UP! I suppose you could also say he gets his respect for not taking shit from the UN. For standing up for what he thought was right for his country, no matter how fucked up it actually was. Still doesn't make him a decent human being though.

While I no doubt agree that getting all your information directly through conspiracy channels is ridiculous, you simply cannot ignore it either. There is an ever increasing number of people who come from this perspective. There is valuable information in there. I'd say at any given time 40-60 percent of it is hyped up, fear induced, paranoia bullshit, but if you can use your logic and intuition to filter out the pulp, it becomes a useful tool when used in conjunction with other angles and sources. I usually try as best I can to hear both the left and right side from my country's bought out corporate media, then I try to get the left/ right or good/ evil version from whatever other countries are involved in the story. Mix that with a bit of the conspiracy perspective and a little unbiased history as best as one can find it. Jam all of this information into your brain, keep it as raw and unbiased as possible, run it through your logic and intuition and you have yourself a generally informed opinion.

I would have been interested in waiting around for succession. His sons seemed very sharp; I saw one kind of pleading on MSNBC during the ignition. I guess we'll never know.

Both Mexicola and Mechanism J have stated their cases very well! It is difficult believe one side or the other when it comes to propaganda. Either way, we will never know the true story of what was going on with Libya because Gaddafi was executed and never got to stand trial.

I think my main point was NATO overstepped their mark in this conflict. This was certainly an internal matter for Libya to deal with.

As for funding terrorism, both sides have done it. (whatever "sides" mean). These guys are playing the board game "Risk", but in real life. It's fucking scary.

The western leaders were supposed to be allies of Gaddafi, but they stabbed him in the back. He himself foresaw this happening, perhaps just not to himself!

I was just thinking this earlier. We seem to have at least 3 major board games running their programming in the collective unconscious. Monopoly, Risk (or possibly chess), and the game of Life itself!

Couldn't agree more. The golden rules: Think for yourself. Acquire as much information as you can, from all sides and make your own mind up. Don't be afraid to 'hone' your view or change your mind in light of new information. Definitely don't be afraid to question authority.

Whatever his past, I was as disgusted as the next man with the 'justice' meated out to him outside that sewage pipe. Couldn't agree more that this is NOT the route I would wish for the Libyan people in the future. Sadly, old habits die hard I guess? Here's hoping that whatever the future holds for Libya they can be be brave enough to reject those who still feel it's somehow ok to dispense verdicts at the point of a gun. It won't change overnight, but I'm hopeful it can change.

I also find it quite humorous there hasn't been talk about the weapons found. Hypocrisy?

I even had a gentleman come into my work today who just got back from Libya basically saying the weapons are there and they know where they came from. But no one will report it on any major news source (go figure) because if it was ever leaked on where the weapons came from, it would undercut just about every endeavor of foreign policy of a few Western nations.

Funny I have a policy paper due in about 9 hours about how the United States needs to change its foreign policy to support and engage the revolutions.
