Hours and hours of complete and utter bleakness. Love it.

I watched Frank last night. What a profoundly moving film. The first half is hilarious, but it moves into something much deeper.

The music made for the film was great. It is what I am now playing.

I've seen Frank recently as it happens.

It is very funny, although I wasn't so convinced of it being that deep overall. It also suffers from one thing that so many movies like this suffer from, which is that when it is done you can't help but feel it didn't go anywhere. Even though it did, I think there is a lack of pace and closure which makes it feel that way for me.

My favourite parts were 'the music's shit!', and frank's most likeable song.

Perhaps "profound" was the wrong word, but it was certainly deeper than it initially came across. It started out as a very funny, fairly odd comedy. But it turns out to be a story about the way people will idolize mentally ill or "troubled" artists, and assume their talent is a result of their illness. And will even attempt to imitate that illness in an attempt to be cool/edgy/genuine. But that takes the piss a bit, as they don't enjoy the illness, it ruins their lives. It's not something to imitate or aspire to.

It covered a lot of subjects which interest me, and there were a lot of parts I related to personally. I think it probably seemed more profound to me than to most people!

I do see what you mean and I realised when watching it that they were trying to get that message across, but I think in a way they shot themselves in the foot by tinting every scene with that kind of ironic comedy. The only scene in the film I can think of when things get entirely 'serious' in tone is the final scene. I am not saying that it shouldn't have been funny overall but it would have been nice to see a few more scenes here and there where things turn and get ugly and deep, and you're not still sat there laughing but feeling the full impact of the message.

Anyway, it is a great film nonetheless and I would highly recommend it to anyone. In fact I do relate in some ways because before a few years ago I had the same disposition towards idolising people like that, because it makes them seem unique. The whole 'flawed perfectionist' thing I've always been sort of attracted towards.
