Babylulu chose to share these with an air of mystery surrounding them, befitting of the band, but also knowing how often this fanbase is subjected to hoaxes, maybe a bad idea. They vaguely answered questions in like four different places, then act put upon as if they’ve already explained themselves. If all was released with a concise message about how these tracks came to light, a lot of confusion could have been avoided.

Of course people should respect the anonymity of the source. It should be understandable too, that people have questions.

i’ve explained myself to the extent of my ability. i don’t understand how i can get more clearer than outright saying “i was sent these by a source who wishes to remain anonymous and uploaded them”

these are mild frustrations, the aftermath has been mostly very fun and i’m glad these tracks are out there

Dropping in to say thanks so much for the upload. I genuinely felt like I was hearing most of these songs with new ears, I'm over the moon!

Adding my voice to the (dawn) chorus appreciation for you putting this out there.
Especially knowing that people would probe incessantly about it.
I still think about what the community at large has lost due to those voices.

Here's to hoping the brothers one up this in 2026 with what they've been working on for a decade +.

Despite my curiosity I must still thank you for the release of these never before seen CD quality copies of these classic old tunes.

jesus mate, you need to chill out and go touch some grass. or smoke some. OP has been kind enough to share these tracks with us and what do they get in return, an absolute hauling over the coals about their provenance, which you seem to think you're entitled to for some reason. just enjoy the music and stop with the cross-examination, it's pretty unsightly tbh.

I'm content at this point not knowing the origins of the release. They sound better than anything I've heard. Thanks babylulu!!!

I'm still adjusting to the new HQ version of 5.9.78. All that tape noise and reduced quality weirdly added something to the atmosphere. Still so nice to have a CD quality version available though! Feels like a track that almost made it onto Twoism, but not quite. Maybe it was recorded alongside some of the other Twoism tracks.

Also because some drama here, want to re-state I am grateful for babylulu's efforts. It still is something hearing Finity as pristinely as possible .. and the others of course. Northern Plastics has a new shine to it too.

HQ 5.9.78 is actually more than I could have ever dreamed of listening to... You just don't get how many years this track has been in rotation... Everyone together now! Thank you, babylulu, for these awesome tunes. Everyone here appreciates you thanks for making the end of the year magical. Now, I wonder what 2026 holds?

lol, I’m hardly raking them over the coals. I stopped asking questions like two pages ago after babylulu’s reply made sense, and I never disrespected their wish to protect their source. My aim has been to clear confusion. So no, not unsightly or entitled to ask questions, just regular. They would have expected this when posting these leaks.

This shouldn’t need to be spelled out, but I’m enjoying hearing the tracks in higher quality. I’m thankful to have the music and recognize that OP put in effort to make this happen, so I’m thankful for them too

Boards of Canada shroud themselves in such mystery, and there's been so many fakes over the years, that if a fan makes a discovery it's almost as if that fan needs to be so transparent that their entire being ends up see-through. If you bought it from a source that doesn't want to be revealed, cool, whatever. I'm just glad you confirmed no AI upscale was used on this and that it's the real deal. And I'm glad you shared HQ rips with us.

Thanks for sharing these tunes and for disclosing as much info as you have. These sound terrific and borderline surreal given how, in my brain, the fidelity of the original rips is synonymous with the actual music. Very glad to have them!

Hopefully this nudges the bros along to finally make good on their BoCset promises.

I want to believe that at this point the brothers have basically stopped caring about what the internet does with their early/unreleased stuff since it's been over 2 decades since Old Tunes leaked in the first place but I could also be entirely wrong about that. I don't think BoCset is coming anytime soon (or possibly ever) but yk, stranger things have happened.

bocset will probably come whenever they retire and need a paycheck or pass and warp gets permission from their kids. if they ever do it themselves I doubt it'll look like any of the supposed pre-twoism releases or even necessarily use the track titles from the old tunes tapes if they're on it. otherwise I don't think they really give a shit at this point at all (or if they do it's more about who initially leaked it rather than anyone now,) the ship sailed on their privacy wrt this material decades ago now
