That was not my aim, no. Let's both relax
i'm pretty relaxed now.
like i said, i didn't mean for my post to have a negative impact. i was just reporting on what my feelings toward BoC were at the time. i did not mean to over do it.

What you said resonates with me. BoC (with a nudge from 'Farenheight Fair Enough) were my doorway into a whole realm of music about 5 years ago, simultaneous with my the beginnings of my exponentially increased access to music through bit torrent. I've listened to so much other music in the meantime that it feels like lifetimes since that initial exposure.
I feel like BoC captured a period of time around the turn of the century, and with some momentum through TCH in 2005. Their music spread shock waves throughout the world of music. But in the last year or so I've gotten the visceral feeling that their moment has passed. You could make arguments about it having to do with the rate of technological change and its impact on our lives, or perhaps its a paradox of how to create nostalgia in an act where we as listeners now feel nostalgia for their original creations of that same feeling?
Here's the best way to describe what I think you're driving at. In my life, I've found times (point B) where I used memory as a tool to re-experience the feeling and emotions of a moment in time (point A). However the next time I would find myself one step removed from that original point A, now only able to access that memory of a memory (i.e point B). That's my personal relationship to Boards of Canada as it stands these days. Perhaps they'll be able to bridge this gap, or perhaps its such a tall order that they're in a bit of paralysis about how to achieve the next step and like many have moved on to focus on families and new lives for themselves.

i don't get why B comes before A in your theory, but I get what you mean...
I think the next release will be completely new, dealing in no way with nostalgia (to me trans canada highway was this way, but everyone completely ruined my party by dismantling the remix which is great when you don't expect it and treat it as a new magic window..)
anyway, let's pretend were all bishops 2
(oh, and what's with the weird sleeve combo on trans canada highway? it's a bitch when driving and you're trying to get the cd out when driving) which is very anticlimactic considering this album is built around driving.
I have to admit I'm also beyond it. I was seriously obsessed with all the latest BoC deveopments but this new old tunes tape that got posted a few days back didn't interest me at all. I just don't care any more. I can't wait to hear the next BoC album, but until it arrives I'm not bothered.

I remember having to spend too much money and work like a dog to understand any music. Damn the internet and its networking devices that are like hornets!
But in the last year or so I've gotten the visceral feeling that their moment has passed.
For whom? Is it now time for "screamo" bands?
they're in a bit of paralysis about how to achieve the next step and like many have moved on to focus on families and new lives for themselves.
New mindblowing tracks on the way! Alert Shirley Temple!
IanRedpoint, Shadowshocker, Opothecary, Ae and s7409651 I think you guys are absolutely right.
And also:

It's good to take time away from something that know is good but isn't connecting with the person you are right now. Those records will always be there for you to return to someday.
I think you are right about this music. After I vented my feelings on the subject I felt I had passed a milestone of some sort. When I first discovered BoC and was at the height of appreciating just the music, I had no idea who the band was - I actually thought it might have been some collective of (faceless) people in Alberta in the 70s at first. All the ephemera, as dave once called it, came afterwards. I can't hate awesome music just because I'm momentarily frustrated with the resulting cultural eddies and currents it created in its wake.
