I work in a forest park, teaching kids about nature and leading nature walks...it's awesome! alot of conservation work too, tree transplanting and that kinda thing...nature garden building.

It's amazing the inspiration your walkman, a tape of BoC and planting trees can give you.

basically, i get paid to get some good exercise, an excellent sunburn, poop in a tube, and sleep in a hammock 1,000m above the ground. i monkey around on some of the tallest walls of rock on the planet. of course there is tremendous responsibility in doing this since i'm usually "towing" a customer or showing someone the ropes (no pun intended). i was actually able to help producers from the discovery channel take high def shots of the park from up high last month, so look for that soon on cable (if you're unfortunate enough to live in the US). if you're ever in california and want to learn to rock climb, email me. i need gigs!

EDIT: Currently unemployed, been working a succession of crappy jobs (dishwashing, cleaning, labouring type stuff) to save up some cash to go study social work & community education.

ive found a balance between a high paying job waiting tables, working at an art-house theater, and tutoring kids at an inner city school.

therefore, lots of unearned tips, free movies, and the emotional fulfillment of helping little kids read.

could use a day off though...

I work for Proctor & Gamble, making Swiffers and all that pap. It sucks ass. Assembly line type crap...need to find something new.

EDIT- I also consider writing/recording/music to be work..seeing as how I've made (some) money doing that Need to get playing more shows though.

I work in insurance and basically I work with bodily injury claims in auto accidents which are very complicated and bore the shit out of me. I may not be doing it for much longer. I've always wanted to teach, and I don't why the hell I didn't go for it when I got out of college.

Lesson #1 for those of you coming out of college: don't take jobs for the money. Cash may rule everything around you, but I've decided that satisfaction with your life is even better.

Well i just got me a govt job, I work in the Social and Family Welfare Department (SFWD to me) as of 5 weeks ago!

Have been trying to get in there for years cause of the great time off and pensions etc...
Thats me set for the rest of my life and i'm only 26, life is good...

I guess I'll expand what I wrote before.

I'm a junior at a private liberal arts college in MN, working for a BA in Philosophy and a minor in management (if all goes well - it's really shaky at the moment). I'm studying philosophy because I, like many people, have a penchant for armchair and couch philosophy, but I always admired people who seemed to be able to take deep discourse to a professional, publishable level - and in some cases, the deepness of the thoughts, so to speak, is greatly increased only at this level.

I don't know what I'm going to do for a living once I'm out of here. People tell me that a 4-year degree from a private college is pretty good no matter what your subject matter is, in the eyes of most employers unless you're trying to do something really specialized that requires a higher degree. I'd like to do something involving writing or editing. I don't have any sort of vocational calling that I'm aware of (and I've been looking, believe me!) but I do know a lot of things I don't want:

-a suffocatingly boring office job - Dilbert style
-inordinately long hours
-a job that gives me "homework"
-a job that demands high levels of professionalism including attire and appearance - my hair is washed and neatly combed but I refuse to cut it short. Ideally, I'd like to spend the rest of my adult life in jeans and a flannel shirt if I possibly can.
-a job wherein the majority of the importance rests on cooperating with, ordering around, or otherwise interacting with large numbers of other people. The less people I have to confront in order to get away with my check, the better.

And I know that my greatest skills are artistic and literary, and my best mental areas are analytic and creative thought. I know that the most important things to me are personal independence and leisure/free time.
