I thought much of tycho hate stemmed from the fact that he claimed BoC ripped him off rather than vica versa... if that's true it does make him a bit of a dick. Personally I don't mind him, but i do find his tunes a bit uninspiring.

listened to some of his music. It's not bad at all

It strikes me as safe and secure ambient music, good for meditation. Only things missing are waves and whales, then it'd be perfect background music for massage clinics (har har har, bad joke)
Flame me!!!

I deleted some posts in this topic because they were about watmm and had nothing to do with the subject. Let's not generalize watmm all of the time. If you don't like that place, fine... but don't proclaim it here all of the time.
Keep it on topic or I have to lock this one.

i quite like tycho. his first EP, the science of patterns, is one of my favorites... i forget which track, but there is one sample of a ride cymbal that kicks in at just the right time. one of those nice little moments.

I said it once, and I will say it again. Tycho is the amazing. His music rocks, and do indeed have a BoC atmosphere, but not more. Tycho's music is far from beeing a BoC rip-off.

I came to Tychos music having read some of the negative stuff written here a while back - I think it's only fair I say that. But I almost deliberately left it alone for a while before I checked it out, trying to give myself some space to allow some sort of subjectivity. It didn't work...
I just find it - I don't know? - cold??? I actually WANT to like it, I really do. I just can't quite put my finger on why I don't. Something just seems missing something and I don't know what it is? It honestly just leaves me underwhelmed? I have a similar problem with Bibio too. I don't dislike it as such, it just doesn't get under my skin. Still, that's my loss I guess?

tychos music is PRETENTIOUS. however in lieu of his latest 2 song release i have hope for him and in fact sent him an apologetic myspace message (because even after my tiff with him he friend requested me) telling him to have my latest album as a peace offering. positivity yielded results nigh.
by the way nurthice is quite interesting to listen to and we recently were in contact with each other through myspace (comment on my page for proof). i do not think he qualifies as a boc clone though.

Nathan Fake's 1983 seemed to have a BoC sound to it.
Hills, thanks for mentioning nurthice, sounds a bit like BoC meets Pete Rock

That's some enjoyable clone-ish music indeed.
The thing I dislike about all those good myspace links is that those artists hardly have any real albums out to download... not even free albums on last.fm or something.
This implies that I listen to them once on myspace and then tend to forget... which is a shame because I'd listen more to this music if it weren't available on myspace only.

how can music be pretentious? an artist can be pretentious. a listener can be insecure and perceive music as pretentious.
but music is a collection of frequencies, incapable of pretention. maybe you're a little too involved in the internet 'scene'?

what is his music pretending to be?I think that word is used too much

umm nope. just this board..only scenesters get upset at other peoples opinions of other artists..nice try though..and his music is pretending to be heartfelt...
good music is an extra limb on a good artists body. bad music are tumours shed from a non-artist-wannabe...then theres tycho: the grey area...im done bashing tycho..like i said i like the newest stuff..

i'm not upset, I'm asking you to explain your opinion.
again, I'll ask: how can music be pretentious? how can music pretend to be one thing or another. it can't. it simply is what it is. the pretense is a matter of your perception.
I'm not attacking you or getting upset. i'm challenging you to articulate your position which it doesn't seem you're able to do.
