Just about any culture will have predictions and prophecies, and given the vast number of civilizations in history, some of them are bound to come out. Especially given the vagueness of most of them, leaving plenty of room for creative interpretation and debatable symbolism.

Just caught up with this thread. Few thoughts.
The KLF (hello Brenda!) strip mined the whole Illuminati schtick a while back now. I guess it's due for a revival of sorts.
The page is quite out of character with the usual BOC aesthetic. Either it's a side project thing or we're looking at a whole reinvention fnord of their "look and feel". It's a pastiche of an only slightly dated corporate style presentation which is quite a fresh take on things if that's a new direction generally for them.
The Warp page logo doesn't seem to fnord match, up so NCD seems incongruous with a mainstream BOC thing there too.

It was interesting reading the explanations of the 9 stages of this prophecy, all of which have been very accurate so far (depending on how you take the translations of course). According the the Mayans we are soon to enter the 5th world or age, I don't buy into any sort of apocalypse theories but I do believe there is more to it than a simple explanation.. Its baffling to read about predictions that were made hundreds and thousands of years ago and are actually accurate.
The media is partially if not mostly to blame for the rise in doomsday and apocalypse 'theories'. I tend to lean towards the fascinating and groundbreaking science that no one ever hears about and relate it to what I can see and feel.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that the day before the proclaimed 'end of the world', that people are going to be crazed beyond belief.. My friend actually just showed up, so we are going to relax and chill out!
More later!
Any books/resources you'd recommend regarding Hopi mythology? I'm always up for more information on the subject.
The media definitely has a huge role to play when it comes to all of these apocalypse theories flying about. The History Channel has had some bafflingly ridiculous shows on 2012 theories that should be pulled from the air, IMO. All it does is create disinformation and hysteria. As if we don't have enough actual history to fill up their programming...
Like you said though, I think there may be relevance (maybe indirectly) regarding the transitions of ages/worlds in countless different cultures. Given what we're up against at the moment, a paradigm shift in human culture and/or the global environment within the next decades or century doesn't require a far stretch of the imagination. Personally, I feel like such a shift is probable, but not in the catastrophic way that doomsday theories usually suggest.
Back to Boards, Wikipedia defines "fnord" as "the typographic representation of disinformation or irrelevant information intending to misdirect", so I wouldn't be surprised if this is a red herring. But, it's an interesting one at least...and this is a fun subject to discuss.

I don't know much about the world ending but I sure reckon a BOC album about the Apocalypse would be a most depressing listen!

Well there'd be different angles I imagine, like intensity to signify panic and fear and sad songs to signify melancholia
It's just when BOC to melancholy, they do it very very effectively (Tears From The Compound Eye)

I like this idea of different angles, as I think there could be a lot more to an album based on so-called 'nuclear/new clear' influences (Big disclaimer here. As it has already been pointed out, second-guessing BoC is like playing the National Lottery. It's testament to the strength of their music that so few words from the artists themselves, and sporadic releases, can produce the conjecture found in this thread and across the forum. What follows is complete conjecture)
Ok, being born in the early 70s, and for one reason or another, BoC have always reminded me of my days growing up. When I first heard MHTRTC, I posted on the old Mo'Wax forum that the album reminded me of the old Open University ident tune that used to appear late at night here in the UK on the BBC. When someone pointed out the National Film Boards of Canada connection to me, I was taken aback by this link to nostalgia, and how their music seemed to tap into it. You can find this ident on YouTube, and maybe you can see why.
A massive influence on my life during the 70s and 80s though was the the Cold War, and this had a big cultural impact on the UK. There was a series of government information films produced called 'Protect and Survive' (also on YouTube), made to accompany a booklet which the government would distribute in times of impending war, and these broadcasts were well-known for their eerie calm/futility (I'm sure a forum member here used to have an avatar based on one of the episodes - can't remember who). At the end of each mini-episode there was an ident tune, in itself harmless enough, but which really seemed to drive home the fear there was in the early 80s of conflict. My point is that BoC remind me of these public information films & the ident tune, and I'd love to hear their musical take on the that whole era. It wouldn't necessarily have to be an album about apocalypse, after all the 80s saw an end to the standard nuclear face-off which was a huge relief, but BoC do seem to tap into the sense of fear quite well.
Rant over. Pure conjecture. I'd be first in the queue for this album though
Cheers!

In fact, BoC has used images from the Protect and Survive films, both in their old webpage and in their live visuals: [wiki]Protect and Survive (films)[/wiki].
I'm an American, so I didn't know these films growing up, but I was also struck by the similarity of the P&S ident.

Wow, didn't see that before! That little snippet of film is just extremely creepy. More and more i'm really attracted about Boards doing a Nuclear theme. Back to the Dark Geogaddi era!

I should have looked more closely at the wiki for that. Thanks for pointing it out
