The opening of this thread caught my eye. I work as a consultant to the music industry and should just point out that:

a - the music industry is NOT dying. Digital revenues are beginning to offset the decline in physical sales, and new income streams (ad-funding, subscription services, brand partnerships, merch etc) point to a healthier future. Have a look at the IFPI sales figures if you would like confirmation of this!

b - The 'questionable decisions' often attributed to Warp are precisely the decisions that will safe-guard the future of their business. They are diversifying, expanding, creating new partnerships etc. I would contend that they almost certainly would have been in trouble had they blindly followed a narrow electronic-only furrow. There are real jobs and real livelihoods at stake here, not just the preciousness of electronica communities. I was sad and disappointed the day they released Maximo Park too - but right now straight-up electronica is far from likely to pay the bills!

Sorry for the unusual earnestness of this post. Just a few things worth saying...!!

Right back to the new Yacht record...

Err Oscillik is right. This analogy doesn't explain the first statement. Never writing again effectively means not creating anything, so not making music, which isn't the point that was originally made.

really? it couldn't mean anything else? like never actually physically writing anything ever again because your pen has no ink?

why are people continually assuming that my "questionable decisions" remark is in regard to their signing of non-electronic based artists?

my remark is nothing to do with that at all.

Well if that's what it was supposed to mean, it makes no sense in the context it was written. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.

the 'release' bit of the first statement was supposed to equate to the 'writing' bit in the second. I was trying to suggest that the label is ultimately just a means to an end. Like a biro to writing. It was a crap analogy, but i think it just about holds together. In hindsight i'd have been better off just writing that, actually, but i was trying to be clever. Fail. :)

WARP isn't going to fail before any of the other labels in the world for one reason. Bleep.com. It's 2nd only to ITunes.

This thread=FAIL.

as you should. pretty flimsy at best.

note...past history of boc releases = approx every 4 years. patience. its been this way from the start.
why fix it if it aint broke.
good things come to those who wait.
etc etc...
posts like this dont provoke artists to werk any faster. i would hazard to say it may make some take their sweet as time. [IF they even look at this tripe]
sorry, this post forced me to come back in.

where in my original post can you detect a "impatience for a new BoC record"?

my original post has got absolutely nothing to do with a BoC release, however long it may or may not take.

i can't believe that you need this to be explained to you

bad vibes, bad vibes. let's all put on our favorite BoC and chill out.
