anybody have any idea why my ps3 will not recognize my laptop as a media server.

i'm using the most up to date ps3 media server.
i have windows vista on my laptop with network discovery turned on.
i have media server connection enabled on my ps3.
i have the ssdp discovery service set to automatic.
in the ps3 media server status window i get the message "ps3 is not found. is it on?"

oddly enough, this is what the end of my log in pms says:
[main] TRACE 20:39:29.302 It's ready! You should see the server appears on XMB
[Thread-8] TRACE 20:39:39.301 Sending ALIVE...
[Thread-8] TRACE 20:40:04.169 Sending ALIVE...
[Thread-8] TRACE 20:43:09.534 Sending ALIVE...
[Thread-5] TRACE 20:45:35.032 Receiving a request from: 192.168.1.103
[Thread-8] TRACE 20:46:15.552 Sending ALIVE...
[Thread-8] TRACE 20:49:20.888 Sending ALIVE...

things to note:
my ps3 used to recognize my laptop as a media server, when at my old house on a different network.
my ps3 currently will recognize my roommate's computer as a media server.

anybody got any ideas?

Just beat Red Dead Redemption. I must say I loved it. The single player campaign was excellent. The multiplayer isn't as good though, especially since they cut down the amount of Exp you get from gang hideouts. I haven't played the co-op missions yet, but I hope to soon.

Just beat Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It was an awesome game! Amazing graphics, great characters, solid story, great gameplay. Just an all around great game. No wonder it got over 25 perfect review scores.

I'm not sure what I'll play next. Maybe Assassin's Creed 2, maybe Tekken 6. Most likely Fallout 3 though, to try to get the platinum.

I just broke into 1000 trophies! Woohoo!

Fredd-E, dude, it's been months since I sent a friend request. Don't you use your PS3 anymore?

I recently beat Resistance 2, Where the Wild Things Are, and have started a game in Fallout: New Vegas. I've also been playing some Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. I forgot how much fun Guitar Hero can be. I haven't played it in so long I lost some of the talent/skill at playing it. I'm still damn good at the game though. Maybe I should revive the Guitar Hero thread. 8)

I just picked up The Sly Collection. Anyone else pick this up? It should be pretty cool, I've never played the Sly games before, but I hear they're good. And man, what a deal, 3 games on one disc for only $40! Couldn't pass it up.

Not gonna play it just yet though. I'm gonna finish Assassins Creed 2 first.

Finished Assassins Creed II. Finished and platinum'd Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. Was an easy platinum too. Finished the campaign for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Am currently playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. What a cool game it is. I love it.

I hardly go on the PS3 anymore meself, I'm pining for more exclusives for it! Metal Gear 4 and Uncharted 2 are my fave games of this console generation and yet I use my 360 much much more. They've just done a teaser trailer for Uncharted 3 though which I'm excited about!

Demons Souls is brilliant but just too damn hard for me :(

Play as a "Royal" and take it steady. :) I was expecting Demon's Souls to be frustratingly hard but ultimately it was just plain rewarding. I only got killed when I did something stupid. Hard but fair.

Really looking forward to The Last Guardian and ICO collection. At last a decent framerate on Shadow of the Colossus! :D

Journey looks gorgeous as well...

Ok, so I've spent the last hour or so ripping music onto my PS3. All of my boards collection in 320mbps will sound awesome once I get my new headphones in the mail on friday.

It takes a while to rip, but it's worth it.

Waiting for my surround headphones before I play any more games, cuz I want the full 5.1 surround experience.

EDIT: 2727 posts 8)

Install and use the program called Serviio. It can be found here: http://www.serviio.org/

I just installed it today. So far it's working great. Got all my movies and music set up to use. That site also has a forum where you can find solutions if you're having any problems with it.

New to the PS3

Not looking for a "best of" as much as a "you-should-play-this-for-this-reason-alone" list of games.

I've just completed my Master's coursework and took my Master's exam last Tuesday, upon receiving the results (fingers crossed for a Pass) my g/f will be buying me a PS3 (I know, right?).

And since I've spurned gaming for so long, I want to know where to start. I'll likely cruise the local used game store and probably join Gamefly.

What say ye!?

well, what kind of game do you like?
first person shooter?
adventure?
action?
sports?
racing?
real-time strategy?

I'm game for most anything.

How about RPG and first person shooters? I'm not much of a multiplayer guy...yet.
