BoC trollin'

ok, so it sounds a LITTLE better upon second listen. i suppose i'm so use to the original that in my mind, the vocals add very little to the track. i admit - i jumped when the vocals started. it's a lot better than the slow this bird down effort...just not my cup of tea i suppose.

For 4+ years I've been coming on this forum for the specific purpose of trolling everyone who likes BoC by saying the wrong shit about them, like "Left Side Drive is boring" and "Basefree is obnoxious" and "I don't even really like Geogaddi as much as MHTRTC" and a whole host of other blasphemies.

well, to be honest, the direction they took around the campfire headphase is just boring in general. i know 90% people here are silly fanboys eating up every crap boc produces and would probably loved my music from when i was 12 if i told them it's young sandisons, but better not call people posers. because saying 'If you find the original boring, I don't see how you can like BoC' is basically that. you guys are worse than evanescence fans sometimes.

its not that bad or anything, but I just can't listen to it, It spoils the original too much..

I had to listen to this 6 times in a row just to get the other track out of my head.

eh. it's all good. honestly i don't think LSD is boring. I think it's more interesting with lyrics than without, but 'boring' i guess... i just think it's boring by the standard set by BoC's other stuff. I am one of those people who gets bored easily by ABPOITC too.

And this track... I honestly do like it, but it is not the same as Left Side Drive, nor should it be. I think I like the original better, but its cool to see a different take on it, and to see what she thinks compliments the track. BoC fans show their BoC love in many different ways, and thats all this really is: solange showing BoC some love. nothin wrong with that

edit: upon a second listen, I think the track would be much better if the vocals were lighter, and maybe interwoven in the mix, not just sitting on top drowning everything else out.

Just listened to Solange's version of "Left Side Drive". I'm really into it.

Have to say I quite like it! Of course the original is beautiful, but this is good for different reasons. People who get precious about anyone interfering with hallowed BoC originals needs to give their head a shake. BoC started off by heavily sampling other artists and the whole tradition of turntablism, remixes and mashups renders this totally valid IMO.

I finally got to listen to this. Here's my take...

The song works. It seems to fit her voice and vocal style much better than Slow This Bird Down did. But my issue with it is this... BoC songs always have a narrative in my head, not told through lyrics but through instrumentation. LSD conjures very specific images whenever I listen to it, and Solange branding her own words on top makes it feel like a birthday cake with 2 layers of icing, which is overkill. And to repeat what someone else said in a previous post, her saying "Left Side Drive" a few times is cheesy and seems forced.

I do have to give her credit for one thing... The girl has good taste in music!
