What about this:
AUdio TECHnological REsearch(ers)
AUral TECHnology REsearch
Mixture of the words "AUdio" and "archiTECHtuRE".
I read mine in a interview in the Wire magazine some years ago, so i believe it's Audio Technical Research, that's what AE told them at that time. 8)

I think I have just about their whole catalog now minus remixes. Can anyone suggest some good AE remixes? There's an assload of them and I have no clue where to start....I would prefer stuff similar to the Amber through Lp5 sound.

Hey i'm totally new to them. I have Amber and nothing else. How does this stack up against the rest of their catalog? This record seems pretty tuneful, is this one of their mellower records?

It's their second album and idd very melodic! So is their first "Incunabula". "Tri Repetae" and "Chiastic Slide" is the biginning of more abstraction in their sound still with lovely melodies. After those who i consider as the 4 best of Autechre their concept involves even more in experiments with various sounds and beats, with melodies to a lesser extent. Still very interesting, but more dificult, and only for die hard fans so it seems, i'm one of them. I'm hoping for a new release soon. :D

Yeah, you need Tri and Incunabula for sure, Steve-O. They're fantastic.

Don't forget their eps, some of their best stuff is on the eps. Defo check out Anvil Vapre, Garbage, Anti, and my personal favourite EP7. :D

My personal favorite is Untilted. I have heard every song at least 30 times, and depending on my mood, or what I am listening to the cd with (heaphones, CD player in room, in the car loudly) they can sound like different songs. There are multiple layers to each song that takes a while for your brain to truly decode. It is going to take a decade for other glitchy artists to get where Autechre are now. If you look at most underground IDM today, it is where Autechre was with Tri about 10 years ago...

My personal favorite Autechre remix (that I have heard, and mind you that there are still plenty I haven't heard) is the one that Autechre did for a 'Scorn' track called 'Falling'. Be sure to check out 'Falling (FR 13 Mix)' soon Derek! It is incredibly dark and groovy and LONG too!

I've gotten my grubby mits on almost all the AE remixes now. There's still some I couldn't find, but so far here are my favorites.

Hypnotise (Ae Mix)
Fast paced, chopped up vocals, and a backing melody similar to "Rae". (which is never a bad thing)

Psi-Onyx (Ae Mix)
This has to be my favorite Ae remix. Tension builds throughout the track, until finally the last 2 minutes peak with an incredible collage of sounds.

Basscadet (Baumont Hannant Mix)
Starts out similar to the origional track, but a sweeping, gorgeous synth line comes in coats you like a warm blanket. I like this version better than the origional, and has sparked my interest to search for some B.H. releases.

Jail Of Freedom (Ae Mix)
Amazing drums on this one with the trademark eerie backround synths that AE do so well.

Garbage Vletrmx (Plaid Mix)
Plaid has been another artist I've really been getting into lately. Not quite as dark as some of the Ae mixes, but sometimes that can be a good thing.

Celsius (Ae Mix)
This is old school Autechre at their best. This mix kind of reminds me of "Drane" off the first Peel Session. Cold, mechanical beats, with dark chords slowly creeping into the track.

So thanks to anyone who has recommended or hooked me up with these. It is very much appreciated. :D

Totally man, listening to those remixes was like discovering unknown albums that I've never heard before. I only wish I could do the same with Boc.
