Local beer here in San Diego, definitely some of the best beer out there in my opinion. Also North Coast brewing company has some good brews. Their Old Rasputin imperial russian stout is incredible.

My everyday, local brewery beer - Ringwood http://www.ringwoodbrewery.co.uk/ 49er if it's available, Best if not.

If I'm having lager, and it's around, Czech Budweiser Budvar, whatever it's called where you are, the non-Budweiser Budweiser. Or I'll have (insert your favourite weissbier). Weihenstephaner is pretty good.

So, a Scottish whisky distillery decides to make a beer-flavoured whisky, and make a beer to go in their casks to give beery flavours to the wood to then go into the whisky. They start off pouring the beer away once they've done that part of it. Then someone thinks, after a few years, "hey, I wonder what this tastes like?" FUCKING AWESOME is what it tastes like, you've honestly never had anything like it.

so is that different than a Scotch Ale? because while those are wonderful, they really make me want actual scotch.

also +1 to Unibroue. The La Fin Du Monde has been the night ender for me on multiple occasions.

I'm no expert, but AFAICT Scotch Ale uses the same malt that goes into the whisky process, but is otherwise a normal beer. This one is actually matured in oak whisky casks over a period of time, so all those flavours leech back out into the beer. And I'm pretty sure some of the high ABV comes from that process too (it's something like 6-7%).

Very unusual flavour for beer, but I think you'd love it.

I prefer local drinks because it's always fresher.

My top 3 choices, can find one of their drinks almost anywhere in the state.


Other drinks I like are pretty common are found most anywhere.

Guinness.

I also have had some stouts, I thuroughly enjoy them.

Not tried these guys out yet, but I hear good things. The BrewDog brewery from Aberdeen, North East Scotland is quickly gaining a name for itself.

Amongst it's wide selection, may I suggest the 'Sink the Bismarck!' at a whopping 41%ABV (no, you didn't miss the decimal point), or - if you fancy something a little less brutal - how about an ice cold bottle of 'Tactical Nuclear Penguin' at a mere 32%ABV.

Stupidity. Lunacy. Genius.

That's why I adore Unibroue products, it's local to me. As said above, La Fin du Monde is a classic blonde and the Trois Pistoles is just an amazing beer.

I like this as well, when back from kayaking: Dominus Vobiscum Triple, a bit on the sweet side for a strong beer but... yum!

The Duchesse de Bourgogne! Perhaps the finest face among the face pinching Flemish sours.

And Old Speckled Hen. British here on that one? I think its great but is it really the UK's Natural Ice?

Hah. I used to go to a folk music festival that they sponsored, and they used to drive a HUGE tanker truck full of that stuff behind the bar area to supply the bar. Scary thing? They'd quite often drink the thing dry before the end of the festival and would have to go and refill the tanker. Never underestimate the ability of a British folk crowd to get through their real ale.

These look incredible. Too bad shipping to the US is 40 euros :/

In my point of view Smooth Hoperator is the best beer.
