Rodheh - I apologise. I was overly harsh. I certainly don't want anyone to leave or feel they can't express their own opinion, which is every bit as valid as the next person's. While we may disagree, I should defend your right to express yourself. After all, the reason I love this place is because of the tolerance and respect we as a group collectively show one another. My own standards slipped with my comment. My apologies to you sir.

I guess, like a family, sometimes feelings run high and things get said which in the cold harsh light of day are regretted. Doesn't mean I don't love you guys like brothers.

Music Piracy is really cracking down. I have one private tracker I use, but it's not very eclectic so I can't get much of what I want.

Maybe the music industry have finally made their move. File upload sites are being taken down all the time. The main two, Mediafire is completely stripped bare of its files now. Megaupload has gone completely.

Torrent trackers are getting taken on. Maybe there is a big shift occuring.

Well it makes a lot of sense..

These days I very rarely listen to the radio, it is seriously full of shit. There seems to be no one promoting varied and alternative music to the masses. All they seem to be interested in is spoon feeding us tasteless crap like xfactor karaoke covers. If only John Peel were still with us.

The radio is not a place of music discovery for me any more and in fact neither is going to the local record stores; they just don't have the same kind of magic they used to. All there is these days is HMV everywhere with the same regurgitated crap, the joy of flicking through the random array of CD`s and finding an intriguing hidden gem have gone, it just inst the same without the various independent stores.

Its probably just as much fulfilling these days to download random music, discover what you like then seek to buy it. Of course the only problem with that is, I bet only a few % of those people who do find stuff they like via downloading actually go ahead and reward the artists.

The Tom Yorke quote is actually something which I thought about many times before. I do love music, but not the mainstream. I have at least like 50 releases a year which I'd want to check out. And this is something I have to hunt down because it doesn't get to my ears at all if I don't look for it. So in order to hear it I have to buy it instead of hearing it on the radio. Well, buying 50+ releases a year just is something I can't effort right now so I pirate some instead.

If there was a station which aired my music I wouldn't pirate as much as I do today. I mostly have my collection on shuffle anywhere I go, so I create my own radio this way.

On the other hand, I am forced to pay for my radio licence fee because it is bundled to my TV licence fee. I don't use it but that money is going to the mainstream artists... Even if I buy blanc CDrs for other projects than music I do pay fees... so who is the pirate here?

If I really like something I certainly buy it and if I could effort it I would buy all. The artists which I like are often small fishes and they have a dayjob next to their "hobby". If I could I support them so they have more time to produce the stuff I love

Damnit ace, you're right. They're fucking things up for honest consumers. If anything this encourages the piracy (you're already paying for it anyway).

People need to face facts and notice piracy isn't going anywhere. We need to let go of the dying system we have now and embrace piracy. The solution to piracy is to have better services then pirates can give me. Downloading music has gone down 90% since I pay for spotify, and record(vinyl) buying has gone up 100% for me. We could use similar systems for other media, or reinvent media altogether. I buy the stuff I care about. Companies better start producing media people can actually care about.

Taste is getting more personal every day. I get the feeling "pop" music will be extinct within the next 10 years. I hope the result will be a more honest division of economics, even though rich people will do anything in their power to stop that from happening, and they are the ones with power right now. They can't stop the inevitable change as we've seen over and over in the past.

To bad the intellect/capacity/culture of the average human-being is shit. This is the only thing that makes me fear the future. People act like cattle. We don't want anything to do with each-other anymore (when was the last time you sneezed in a public place and you got a "bless you?"). You are being ignored.

I suggest we all buy bullhorns and start screaming the change we want in the streets.
I suggest all the hackers in the world join forces and reset the global economy completely.
I suggest we stop fearing the "government" and start fearing "people as masses".
I suggest we as twoism move to the bio-dome I'm building with resources enough to last a lifetime (for free, if you appoint me your God and supreme overlord)

Fucking love that. All these file sharing/torrent sites are shutting down in fear, bunch of babies, I tell ya!

TPB is gonna be around forever though at this rate.

I'm a fan of vinyl and I really wish I could have my record player and my tiny little collection with me in the matchbox apartment I live in now, but I was lucky enough to experience a minor "vinyl revival" a couple of years ago. But the inherent qualities of MP3 and digital music fascinates me. Digital music allows us to come with the terms with a fact that has been true since always, but that has been obscured by the recording media so far: music is energy. Music is not an object, not a body, not a physical thing. Music is nothing but vibration. And digital music translates that very well: music is electrons flowing, being transformed into air waves. The elusive, immaterial quality of music now is a reality, and I love that.

The fact that people now can't have fond memories of holding a record in their hands, of buying it at the store, is merely a paradigm shift. I can live with that. I remember downloading some albums that changed my life, I remember listening to them for the first time. I have memories, I have fond connections to music. Now, they're not physical objects anymore; they're pure energy.
