I wasn't even born yet when this movie was released, but the original Star Wars trilogy was a big part of my childhood, and now that I'm older I appreciate the films even more.

If anything needs to be done to Star Wars it should be the deletion of the prequels from history and our minds. The horror...the horror. Personally I think Star Wars should be left alone and directors should focus on newer ideas. But done right it might not be so bad, I just wouldn't have much of an interest in a reboot.

Oh, by the way if you guys want a great bad movie, Troll 2. Watch it NOW.

It seems like it's trendy these days whoring about Lucas, but please stop, he's a great man. Also, I don't personally find the prequels to be that bad, actually I enjoy watching The Phantom Menace and specially the third one, which is kind of epic. Both better than A new hope if you ask me.

However it's comprehensible, everybody lives in their own generational subjectivity and I have no problem with that. By the way Magrathea, what do you find so great about the HP film series? I haven't seem all of them, but Half-Blood Prince was awful compared to the book.

Doesn't really matter if it's trendy or not, it's just that in recent times to me it seems like he's lost touch with what made the original trilogy special. There isn't really any emotional connection for me to the characters in the prequels, they don't have that much personality, and a lot of it just seems like an excuse to shove giant CGI battles on the screen. Like I get what the intentions of the prequels were, the whole idea of Anakin starting off as a young respectable Jedi and being tempted and consumed by the dark side is a great idea, but it's just carried out so poorly. I just can't be drawn into the huge battles that occur in the movies when they don't bother to make me care about the characters. Anyways, I don't have a personal vendetta against George or anything, I just strongly disagree with his work these past 15 or so years.

Hmm, ever since George came up and retouched the originals I have been kind of worried, I mean what if Tolkien went ahead and revisited LOTR? How about if BOC decided to remix their best tracks and add all sorts of trendy trinkets?

I have nothing against updating the visuals, but adding voice overlays and the likes, or altering the Greedo/Solo part in Ep.IV was just plain silly and the sign of someone not at ease with going against the mainstream.

So George, please, stop it.

And forever you shall burn for the ewoks, I mean it, if that thing had been made to be kashyyk it would have been epic. I guess they ran out of Peter Mayhews...

Back on topic, if you get a chance to see Moon, by Duncan Jones, I thought that was a nice little indie movie.

Lucas WAS awesome, but now he sucks. He raped the originals hard. The original Theatrical versions are the best. Thank god I have the untouched Theatrical Versions on DVD.

I mean come on, why go and change stuff to such a classic saga? That's like adding extra detail to the Mona Lisa cause her hair didn't look realistic enough. It is what it is, it's what we grew up watching, it's how we remembered them to be, so yes, stop it Lucas, go play golf and retire.

Favorite movies: Adaptation., Synecdoche New York, A Clockwork Orange, C'est Arrivez Pres De Chez Vous, Eraserhead, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Naissance Des Pieuvres, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Jacob's Ladder, Fucking Amal, Dazed And Confused, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Waking Life, Stand By Me and I'm probably forgetting a ton. I also love Pulp Fiction but the rest of Tarantino's body of work is a little bit overrated in my opinion.

We could use a general movie discussion thread I guess.

AH! A David Lynch fan! Excellent! Also you get points in my book for Jacob's Ladder. Love that movie.

Omg I was the same age. It came out at the end of my second grade year, my dad got me out of school to see the 2nd showing on opening day at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood which was THE EPIC Place that was shown all over the news.

why can't we have the original option on the new blueray release with just having the color and sound remastered. He has turned into such a shit head. I hope this release just does dismally. At Least Blade Runner on Blueray had 5 different versions (US original, Directors, Foreign, Workprint, and new directors cut with restoration and added footage) its great.

Mysterious Skin is a very good film. I found it because Robin Gutherie did the film score and I've always loved his work. But yeah nothing recently has really fascinated me or delighted me. Probably the only thing I can think of is the animated sequence of the Deathly Hallows story in HP7. That came as a complete surprise and I thought it was stunning animation.

No advanced cinema here (actually it is a pretty bad movie because it's so blunt and over the top) but I did thoroughly enjoy it because it's such an interesting depiction of Dutch (youth) culture of the late seventies. And, I now have a crush on one of the actresses (Maya in the movie)
