About TCH:

Tears from the Compound Eye suck and Farewell Fire is a waste of time. The idea of that track isn't dumb, but it should be twice as short.

Also, I used to really like Chromakey Dreamcoat, but now, it bores me, though I won't say that it's a bad song.

And the acoustic guitar is used really poorly in Satellite Anthem Icarus. The vignette at the end is the best part of the track overall.

Jacquard Causeway is a borefest, and Cold Earth and Nothing Is Real are dull.

Also, sometimes, Tomorrow's Harvest hardly sounds like it's Boards of Canada.

Agree. The songwriting on TH is a bit of a slog. Or I don't have the patience for it at least. Maybe should have just ditched the percussion entirely.

I completely disagree, Jacquard Causeway is my favorite song of theirs and a masterpiece in my opinion, and the album as a whole is the best they’ve done imho. The synth work is ace.

Yes absolutely. I think this is them at their finest. Such a deeply melancholy and haunting track. It starts off hopeful almost. Definitely among the most complex compositions. Reading that last Japanese interview where they talk in detail about how difficult this track actually was made me appreciate so much more. They stated they had phasing problems because of all of the micro-timing layers going on. Ive dealt with that when micing long form complicated material myself. Feels closer to home. I love this track and album so much. Split Your Infinities is my second favorite track.

Split your Infinities is peak BoC. I long to live in that song forevermore.

Hard disagree. I revisited the record after a third listen to Inferno today, thinking about how much of TH felt like a drag to me. Then I remembered the sheer amount of texture and beautiful layering throughout the album. The synths are wonderful. Cold Earth & Sick Times are amazing. In fact the percussion on all the tracks throughout are so fucking pristine and well balanced, between electronic vs acoustic, as well as lofi vs hifi.

But I will say, the placement of New Seeds into Come to Dust is absolutely dreadful. I don't know why they put those two together at the end. The whole fucking album still feels like a drag by the end when it gets to those two back-to-back. I would've actually preferred if they gutted one of the two, or ended the record altogether earlier just with semena.

Sorry but this is one of the highlights of the album.

I really like how the outro in News Seeds cuts into the otherworldly vocal opening of Comes To Dust.

Re New Seeds, in general I do love TH a lot and in retrospect I think it's very unique and interesting despite converging with some of the trends from back then (synthwave etc), but I wasn't a fan of the "epic" melodies in New Seeds. It reminds me of the scene in Dawn of the Dead when Peter decides not to kill himself and terrible "heroic" music starts playing. The scene itself isn't my favourite although it's not too bad, but the music is so jarringly terrible in contrast with Goblin's gloomy synth tracks.

Yeah, apart from Dayvan Cowboy, it's quite unusual for BoC to try to do "epic" stuff like on Reach for the Dead and Come to Dust.

and all three of those tracks are ace. New Seeds is also one of my favorite things they have done. Love the guitar and morse code like loops… the driving beat is special too. Come To Dust hits so hard and that squelching distorted synth coda at the end gets me every time. Reach For The Dead feels to me like the twin to Music Is Math in a way, with the hard hitting boom bap style beat but with XYZ style percussion accents at times. TH is a masterpiece to me
