Agreed - I like to think of it more as a fun yet nihilistic response to the social media expectations placed on artists these days, and maybe a message to the fanbase that a black box worked just fine last time around.

99% chance it's a fake, but given that the sample of Circle that was posted on the old website has that same little drone sound repeating several times, and the song is only 2:30~ long, I think it's quite possible that is, in fact, what the whole track sounds like.

On Reddit someone says it's just the Circle sample copy and pasted to match the real track length.. but it is called Circle and it just goes round and round..

At least the faker understood it was a circle that goes round and round.

The legitimate sample of Circle consists of a perfect loop repeated 2 or 3 times (faded in and out) that can be duplicated (if cut at the correct start and end points) to fill any length of time. I did the same thing in Audacity years ago for fun to create a fake full version of Circle. I believe the real track has more to it, though. It's not like Boards of Canada to loop a few seconds of music for two and a half minutes.

Nah, we're all going to have to get twice as high as normal and perform some crazy elaborate ritual first. I'm guessing no one will figure it out until page 959 or so. Hopefully when the time comes, we slow down and don't fly too close to the sun in the process.
