personally I don´t think it´ll kill the music industry

I think "Pop" music will be harmed a little, but most of these artist are still making enough money with merchandise etc (if the money thing is the issue in this matter)

but with IDM it is different I think, I know a lot of artist thanks to P2P and because of that I now buy a lot of records from these artists


am I speaking nonsense or what?...

If it were not for the p2p devices on this damn new-fangled "Inter-web" technology, I would not have heard of most of the music I currently listen to....so it's helping otherwise lesser known artists....but mainstream artists are taking a hit because their albums are (usually) packaged with only a few passable tracks that end up on the radio anyways so people are not being encouraged as much to buy albums...and people are not going to pay four dollars to buy a single that they can download illegally for free....

Overall, the music industry can overcome any sales problems and record companies will find new techniques in marketing the artists on their label....

It will all work out....for everyone....hopefully....

i'm sorry to say i have a very 'blurry ' opinion about all this...i think p2p is good, i discovered quite a lot of artists online, as i did thanks to the press years ago. The thing is, i couldn't own a BoC album without actually buying it, the design etc is so important. Artists i listen to without paying anything are the ones i care for less...
I guess the key is to make beautiful t-shirts.
Make t-shirts. Earn money.

And why aren't there more boards of canada shirts available online anyways? Once in a while I see a batch on ebay made by some cool dude but other than that, I have yet to see any shirts from our favorite band!

Heck, if shirts aren't going to be made, then at least make bracelets or something....

i think the turning point that came about with the era of p2p/downfall of the big record companies will be very beneficial in the long run to artists; more and more, i see artists and small records labels selling their music with less intermediaries by setting up their own little webstores (either digital or mail order); that cuts out the pressure that has driven the record industry to go for the profitable sounds and artists and push them to the extreme....

ps- i can't seem to find the music that i'm looking for through p2p anymore, and also it's always more satisfactory to have the physical record for me..

i agree as well

it also depends on how many people actually buy stuff (most people i know hardly invest in music, they just download it. i'm afraid they take it for granted )

Most people in my environment as well, it might be a coincidence but they all like populair music and listen to pop radio... all the IDM heads I know still buy music. I think it means a lot more to them.

Not alone IDM heads buy music, i'm interested in various of styles
