You think boc use alot of samples?

ithink a good amount of the music (beats, melodies, sounds, and of course voices) are just tweaked samples...thats what makes their music so organic yet synthesized..

False. Well... I'm actually too lazy to pull out my sources, but isn't the beat from Nlogax from.... "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life"?

And... isn't there a sample on one of the old tunes from "Celebrate Good Times" or some other old funk song?

And isn't the music (as well as the words) on Color of Fire sampled from a Seasame Street episode?

And I SWEAR there's a sample in Sixtyten that was used earlier in an Amon Tobin track... at about 1:10 minutes in Sixyten and at about 3:00 in Amon Tobin's "Sultan Drops" from Permutation... although I don't know where the sample is originally from.

So... yes.. they do use samples of music. There's probably examples I'm forgetting. I need to go to bed.

I have listened and I can't hear any common sample whatsoever in either of the two.

Also, I don't think it's fair to bring their unreleased music into this subject. They didn't make those tapes thinking they were going to be heard by many people, so I think they're in a category of their own if you see what I mean.This is probably why they're so pissed off that the old tune tapes got out.

You're listening for the horns. They fade in and out with the vocal samples on Sixtyten. They're much more up front in the Tobin track. I could be wrong- but there's a striking similarity, imo.

And Nlogax still stands in pretty obvious contradiction to that statement, and it's not unreleased.

what i meant previously was that they sample things like voices or noises/sounds, and then they change the sounds into something new, and then turn them into melodies or beats....kind of like organic electronics..

That's the one! I mentioned this in another post, I didn't know the name of track but I heard this on the radio and thought it was Nlogax. Thanks for mentioning this, as I couldn't find anyone who knew the name of it.

Of course BOC sample. They're always talking about sampling themselves and there's stuff obviously sampled from other sources - some more obvious than others though.

The point, I suppose, is that you wouldn't call their music 'sample based' as that tends to suggest it's all just samples of records and sample libraries. It is, more accurately, sampler based in that the sampler is central to what they do.
