RSD enigma decoding thread (AKA Hut 6)

I think we need thread to discuss the code. The other threads are too busy with other chatter to keep track of the theories.
So far we've seen:
The colour theory based on values used to specify colours in HTML
http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/htm ... l?c=936557
The prime number observation
http://www.numberempire.com/936557
The ASCII theory which in hex throws up ' " e W ' and in decimal ' ] A 9 '
The YouTube Julie and Candy observation based on the description being six words or phrases: "1977 snow computing amateur footage beards synthesizer" = 1977 / snow / computing / amateur footage / beards / synthesizer
And if you share on Facebook the extra words, 'salopette endtimes uaevoun yera" are added to the description.
Co-ordinates. During the Red Moon incident -
http://bocpages.org/wiki/Red_Moon_incident - one of the images' text was decoded as being map co-ordinates to a location in Scotland. It's possible that the some or all of the remaining codes are co-ordinates.
The prime number observation: The first number 936557 was prime but the second 717228 is not. There are a huge number of six-digit prime numbers so the fact that the first was prime is probably just co-incidence.
The nth decimal place of Pi theory: The idea is that the numbers could be used to index individual digits based on decimal places in pi e.g. n/n/n/0/3/n. OR some other kind of index to larger number.
Right now I'm discounting the colour theory and the ASCII code in their present form. The prime number doesn't really tell us anything but I'm willing to bet that the fact that it's a prime is significant somehow.
edit.
The prime theory was sunk with the second number.

All that ASCII and Hex color stuff is too computer geeky for BoC I think...
Instead, it's a good chance that it's OTP:
http://www.spynumbers.com/numbers.tips.html
I base that on the fact that the record exactly mimics a number station.

Agreed.
But guessing the pad
AND the encoding used may be very tough. I hope that there will be some other subtle clues on how to crack this.
Someone guessed that a crib like '2013' could be used to crack the code but you still need to know how it was encoded.

As if the OTP/numbers station connection wasn't obvious enough already, I'm pretty sure the call-sign from the Cherry Ripe station ( can be heard in the video, around the 0:33 mark amidst the background radio burbles.

I can sort of hear it. The dude
really needs to upload a .wav of this record so we can hear it in all it's glory.

Some random ideas, no idea really.
Has anyone tried tuning a radio into 936.557kHz? (can you even get that precise? haven't tuned a radio manually in years!)
If going on the colours theory, could the 6 sets of digits specify the colours of the sleeves of a 6 x LP set?
Anyone got a feel for whether this might be a clue that leads to the next number? I.e. in a similar vein to MacHeist?

Do we actually have any clear evidence that the Dude actually happened to buy it by chance, and isn't a plant/rep from Warp? Could the record store be 'in' on such an instance of viral marketing? I mean, a BoC fan just happens to be in the right record store on the right day, and find that 12"? What are the odds?

It's possible, although this was RSD not just any day.
But this thread's just about the code.

i was thinking same when i saw it, imagining how the system could work, as it is, for cover artwork its a bit hmm too cliched now, so much of it going on at the moment, flat art, coloured squares and triangles etc. if you put their current 3 albums side by side the colour shifts are similar, from turquoise to red and back again. i dunno. it does look retro'ish though done and dusted.
if this is some sort of bocset there better be new gear in there and if theres re-issues not re-designed, fans won't like that.

I think the colours thing is both too easy and too boring. You get six colours and then what? The album comes out and it's those colours? Big deal.

As this is the only thread I've not mentioned it in - numbers could relate to keys on a phone keypad to spell something out, like maybe the name of the forthcoming album or a message.

All of the numbers add up to 8.
9+3+6+5+5+7 = 35
3+5 = 8
That Julie and Candy video is number 8 on the playlist of BOC Music Videos. That's all I got.
Also...as another speculation. This sound byte:
specifies that the discovered vinyl "------/------/------/xxxxxx/------/------" was the only copy available in the United States. Which leads me to believe that hey...maybe this is #4 in a sequence of 6 vinyls around the world that all have different numbers/music on them.

Granted, but the motivation behind it all could be relevant to cracking the code, yes? Understanding whether these are meant to be found randomly, or whether we are going to be drip-fed them, could have significance for how we approach the problem. I myself can't decide whether we will be passively fed the codes, or whether one leads to the next. But maybe I'm overthinking it!

That's pretty much the general assumption.

Yeah sure. I just meant theorising about if the guy was a plant was kind of irrelevant. If we accept the numbers mean something then that bit doesn't matter so much. The When part of this could well be key.

At watmm somebody pointed out grid reference NS936557 is "right by the pentlands" and is a "beautiful place out in the country". i'm not going to discourage anyone from visiting lanarkshire by any means, but it's actually a shithole. only way to get there without driving is via lanark SPT station. anyway, doubt it has anything to do with it.
edit: also would not consider it to be anywhere near the pentlands as the scale of scotland goes.

has anyone kinda thought about the whole newcleardawn.com and the fnord deal....
and now this....
it all just seems so uncharacteristic of them.....

there was mdg confirmation that newcleardawn is nothing to do with boc.

LISTEN TO TRACK 11 ON THE LIVE @ ATP ALBUM.
Now listen to the cryptic music in the "-/-/-/x/-/-" vinyl. They sound extremely similar. It's just bizarre. All I'm saying.
