personally I disagree with a lot he had to say but he is entitled to his opinion. He didn't do himself any justice when he over generalized and called all people who like BoC "Elitist Hipsters".

I call for a moratorium on talking about hipsters as a thing forever and ever amen. Please for the love of all that is good and beautiful in this world, just stop. It's the stupidest thing in the entire universe.

yeah I never really did get what hipster even met and I don't think I care to. I guess I'm just not "hip" enough.

For real! The hipster thing pisses me off so much! I can't even count on both hands how many times I've been called one. Why? Because I wear certain clothes? Or because I like a lot of indie music? Fuck, I like a lot of non-hipster music too. If those are criteria for being a 'hipster' then I'm fine with that label because that's who I am (and frankly, I'm fabulous
) but it's not fair when people over-generalize and use the term in a derogatory sense.

Seriously, words like "pretentious" and "hipster" get thrown around way too much in the discussion of music. And they don't even say anything about the music itself. I don't get why people have to take it to that level, people being argumentative for the sake of arguing just frustrate me.

How did you even find this article? How does this fellow have any subscribers at all? He is not stating his case very well; terrible writer.

Hilarious!
In the space of a single day, I see two articles / comments linked on here, both criticising BOC in opposite ways: one of them says how great MHTRTC was compared to the rest of their music and the new album should sound like it because everything since 1998 has been rubbish; the other stating how awful MHTRTC is because they have always 'hated children'...
If nothing else, Twoism, I cannot fault your balanced approach!

This is actually a pretty arduous and painful thing to read for being less than 1000 words. As a writer and a journalist, it's always surprising to me that the people making the boldest (and generally half-baked) claims on the internet manage to support their ideas with the least grace and eloquence. As OverTheHorizonRadar said, it's riddled with overly-subjective terms like "hipster" and "pretentious," and he offers very little constructive critique of the actual music other than it being "too ambient." Imagine that! Why is Boards of Canada and overrated band? Because the music has elements of ambiance in it, and that doesn't jive with the reviewer's personal taste. Therefore, Boards of Canada's success in the music business is illegitimate and not deserved, right?

He just has two points;
a) It's redundant
b) its boring
oh and
c) sometimes the drums are nice
I'm all for opinions, just as long as they're articulated well and the dude has more points.
Really if he was a good writer he'd be able to make me say "Oh I can see that" with his criticism, but I just kind of shake my head and go "whut"

Yes, ATS it should be noted is part of the "International League of Extraordinaire Douchebaggery" and they alone are responsible for the consumption of several tons of tinfoil yearly.
