After seeing the abandoned water park last night at the TH listening party, I've been looking up other left behind locations.

Here in Cincinnati, OH we had Surf Cincincnati Water Park that went under:

Any abandoned places near you?

The former Belvoir Park Hospital just down the road from me (Belfast in Northern Ireland) used to be a popular spot for urban explorers, sadly now boarded up and for sale. There are some cracker photos here -

St Peter's Seminary in Scotland is somewhere I'd love to go before it's restored or redeveloped. I've a soft spot for brutalist architecture.

Cool topic! I love exploring adandoned places and I've been to quite a few places. I wish I had my own pics but they were all lost over the years. Here are some of the coolest places
Holy Land, USA-abandoned biblical theme park

Norwich Insane Asylum-this was the creepiest place I've ever been.

Pleasure Beach -old seaside resort, artists went there and reclaimed the old cottages. I think it's been all torn down now though.

But basically if it's abandoned and it's in CT I've been there trying to remember a few other places now.

Why isn't anyone living in those?

Awesome, a lot of great photos. I would love to go to that Holy Land. Creepy stuff.

Someone was murdered in Holy Land USA not too long ago :/ I believe it's been torn since then, but the lit cross is still up.

With some of the cooler abandoned places people might squat there for a little while, but they usually have some police presense so no one can set up for good. People lived at Pleasure Beach for awhile, until they tore the cottages down.

there are folks with a pretty sweet set up living under las vegas though

Also when I lived in the woods there was an old abandoned house across the street that used to be a nursing home called "Valley of the Moon". It was being completely consumed by wisteria and the woods in general, it reminded me of the house from RFTD. Someone at my community salvaged an old clawfoot bath tub from there and set it up so it could be wood heated, out in a meadow in the woods. That was a sweet life.

This place isn't exactly an abandoned building, but a graveyard of abandoned airplanes in Kingman, Arizona. Have always wanted to go camp out there for a night or two and have an explore, paint on some of planes, take pictures.

Wow! Thank you for posting that. I'm planning to move to the US in a few years and I've added that to my "visit here sometime" list.

Ace. These remind me of Jaques Fresco's futurist architecture. I don't think they are as his Venus Project stuff is based in Florida.

Thanks for that, a good article. It fascinates me as well, although I haven't really done anything beyond have a look round the odd easily accessible abandoned building.
I can't really identify with many of the more macho or supposedly 'activist' motivations mentioned in the article, though - for me the interest is in the contrast between an abandoned building and imagining it when people worked or lived in it, the fragments of people's lives still there and imagined, I suppose a kind of hauntological thing.
