MHTRTC, 7 out of 18 tracks were under 2 minutes. On Geogaddi, 12 of 24. Then TCH came along and only 4 were under 2 minutes, and now on TH it's just Telepath and Uritual (which just makes it at 1:59). Besides being some of the most musically diverse and memorable pieces (Olson, Dandelion, Over the Horizon the Radar, etc.), these shorter tracks helped to put some space between the longer, denser songs (Music is Math, Alpha and Omega, You Could Feel the Sky, Happy Cycling, etc.) and keep the albums from feeling too monotonous.

Tomorrow's Harvest has some fine songs and its production is impeccable, but its pacing suffers. It's too lean and linear. An extra 5-8 minutes worth of shorter tracks interspersed between the heaver ones would have done a lot for its listenability as a coherent body of music. I'm sure I'll come back to my favorite tracks many times, but I doubt I'll be listening to the entire thing from start to finish very often.

I'm with you. Those are some of my favorite tracks, those little gems. I was disappointed that there weren't any on the new album. But we have new material, so I'm not gonna be greedy, just wished they included some of those short tracks.

If you consider the cutoff for a "vignette" to be 2:30, it quickly becomes 4 tracks - 6 tracks if you're under 3 minutes.

it's not trolling dumbass those little <2 minute tracks were some of my absolute favs, even BOC themselves said those were some of their most fond tracks. the new album is by no means a disappointment but i am kinda sad there's not as many short vignettes

Yeah I wouldn't say I'm disappointed at all, but I love the little tracks so much, smallest weird number is one of my favorite songs of theirs. I love the way they bridge the songs on the album.

Yeah I agree, I think the lack of those little track really hurt the pace and flow of this album. The album is great, dont get me wrong, just the flow seems rushed to me.

I think there are plenty of shorter songs on this album, not as short as on some of their older releases, but I think the expectation of pretty vignettes is something they want to take a break from, probably like them trying to get away from the childrens' voices sampling on TCH.

trolling or not, I had a friend mention to me that there was a lack of vignettes on the album after hearing the live stream today - so the sentiment is certainly out there. I think there *are* vignettes though, they're just blended with the rest of the album. There are many short tracks ~2min in length that serve as pacing and interludes and not "entire tracks" if thats not a vignette is dont know what is.

Yeah it almost seems like some of the songs contain little vignettes.

I like the short interlude tracks of old, but mostly because I'd rather have 17 things to listen to than just 8-12 tracks. After giving each album tens/hundreds of listens, I gravitate heavily towards the fuller tracks, and I'm REALLY happy that TH has so many fully fleshed out songs (while still very concise!).

Olson might be the best 1 minute and 31 seconds I've ever spent.

I do love some of their shorter tracks the most, namely Olson, Constants Are Changing, Kaini Industries, Melissa Juice, Under The Coke Sign, Over The Horizon Radar, Triangles & Rhombuses. All incredible.

I was actually saying something similar earlier... While I love the songs on this album, I still think Geogaddi was more tight as an album. It had a more consistent flow, whereas TH seems to be a bit more over the place. Both are great albums in their own way, and the lack of vignettes doesn't particularly bother me, but a few extra ones would have been nice.

They have a longer discourse now, just as happens with Burial.


You can always stop the song whenever you want to feel more comfortable, though.
