Wow, just noticed they got the name wrong in the article title.
And..
"For me, to make it successful, I don't want anyone to know where any of this stuff is. It's about creating something otherworldly."

Neat article! Cool to see his perspective/background with the band.

According to Krug, there doesn't appear to have been any creative pressure from the band or the label to film things a certain way, but atmosphere was discussed plenty. Krug notes that one of the things they were going for was an air of paranoia and bleak sci-fi dystopia that was probably inspired by films from the mid-70s.

I just read this article, it was great! I hadn't actually seen his clip for In a beautiful place in the country, which, as it turns out is stunning.

If he doesn't want people to "know where any of this stuff is" then he'll have to try harder next time

I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people who will be enjoying this album still have no idea where any of the Reach for the Dead video was shot, no idea about Alameda, and didn't hear anything about the Delores Lake listening party. The only reason we all know is because we are all constantly frequenting twoism and find out this stuff from each other. Outside of here and probably WATMM, it's certainly still a secret.
That said, I live by Alameda street. Maybe I need to sit on a corner there and listen to the album. :p

Agreed. It was pretty obviously shot in the California desert... and the album cover with the transamerica pyramid is a dead giveaway to San Fran. Having said that, I do acknowledge that I live near and frequently visit the Mojave Desert here in California, and have camped about 20 miles from Lake Dolores Waterpark/Yermo more times than I care to count. So my opinion may perhaps be invalid.

I live in Washington now and lived in San Mateo as a child and I never would have known where that was unless someone told me. I imagine people from outside the United States have no idea.

What's the second video down (the video set to Semena Mertvykh)? They (Neil Krug and crew) were at the listening party and filmed it? Pardon if that's old news, but I hadn't seen that video before.

thats a nice little piece of insight and thanks for the link.
what i'd now like to know is... where have these artwork photos come from, stock photos hardly but it seems Krug is not involved.
one image that strikes me quite hard, simple but one that i'm sure for everyone connotes 'power' or the arrival of something sinister, quite often employed in film and thats that photo of the 'boot', like a military boot. the stamp of authority. something bad is coming...

Nice find!
In this video, you can see the Director & DP walking around filming on the left side of the frame back by the stairs...

The lower left picture on the booklet is a crop from the photograph they used to have as a background for their YouTube page.

hmm, cool article, but a little disappointing. As a DP myself, I thought maybe they would delve a little deeper into the creative process.. the Bolex used to shoot the video, the film stock used, the light leaks/film burns and how authentic they were, the ending sequence...oh well.
