hey guys, thought I'd give you a heads up on this one. The record store I work for has this excellent copy of the MHTRC vinyl so I listed it on ebay:

also, out of curiosity, how much were the old records retail when they came out?

This is how I feel - I'd also like to know what the RRP of the represses was for anyone who bought one? I would guess that it would have been around the same price as they charged for TH on vinyl, considering it has the same intrinsic value, but I could see that warp might charge a premium on them seeing as how there's so much appetite for them. But I wouldn't expect them to charge more than £20-£30 for a copy. At least I hope they wouldn't.

1. Open sealed record
2. Store liner notes / original inner sleeves in japanese resealable LP protector
3. Clean freshly opened record on Okki Nokki record cleaning machine
4. RIP Vinyl to 24 bit wave through Apogee Duet or similar audio interface
5. Record to vintage NOS TDK compact cassette tape via Studer A710
6. Place each record in Mobile Fidelity inner sleeve
7. Place each innersleeve into new blank outer sleeve
8. Place all outer sleeves in Japanese resealable LP protector

$13.99 seems really cheap but I suppose in 1998 that was really the equivalent of about $20 now. But I bet you're glad you were enough of a fan from the start to make that purchase!

It seems like the resurge in vinyl popularity over the last few years is such a recent development that it's easy to forget that vinyl continued to be pressed and sold throughout the 90's and mid-2000's before it became a really big thing. It's probably just that I haven't been aware of it's appeal for that long. But it makes me wonder, did new record pressings actually continue to be widely available through the 90s? I assume the market would've been far more niche then.

i have 2 or 3 copies of each of their LPs, and at least 1 of them is sealed

I would say no except for electronic music mainly because of the DJ angle. I think there would have been specialty pressing for things like Nirvana but not standard vinyl issues. There may have been a resurgence in the late 90s. I got Ok Computer, Kid A and the the first Sigur Ros record on vinyl in this time frame.

Interesting. I suppose the existence of cult record pressings on vinyl actually played a big part in the widespread popularity increase in the following years.
