(I hope this doesn't sound unbearably pretentious...)
I'm putting together a compilation with the members of this facebook group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/metroko/
and this soundcloud group
http://soundcloud.com/groups/metro-ko
We specialise in a form of electronic music with subtle beatwork and depressive glitch/drone derived atmospheres and melodies, inspired musically by Burial, Clubroot, Autechre, Oval, DJ Screw, the Future Sound of London, Echospace, minimalism in the 70s...
We set out to evoke the feelings one might get at nighttime in an urban landscape:
When feeling incedibly isolated amongst crowds in a city, and confused as to why,
When taking a late drive through somewhere Salt Lake or Chicago,
When realising your girlfriend has cheated on you with your professor (this actually happened to somebody and they were listening to one of our earlier releases when the realisation came),
Or, alternatively,
When totally blissed out and mesmerised by stars, neon lights, street lights, and towering concrete, embracing the impermanence of your future.
We make music with these sounds and this feeling because it's what we look for.
We call it metro-ko because it's a neat name.
If you're interested in hearing what it sounds like: http://city-1.bandcamp.com/
If you are interested in contributing, please send your contribution to the email in the subject by June 30th.[/i]
