Here's the moment Sony took a massive dump in Microsoft's backyard (complete with cheers and chants!)

That's hilarious. The whole DRM discussion was a marketing ploy.

Kind of sad that this is even news... I remember when ALL games were like this.

Still, good on them.

Yeah, it makes Microsoft look pretty bad lol...also, it's apparently region-free? Import gamers are going to rejoice muchly over that fact.

I've never been an Xbox supporter, but I still will be holding out until the middle of 2014 before I buy a new console..and I can tell you it will be either a PS4 or Wii U, though I plan on owning both eventually.

Same, I only have an Xbox in the hope that Halo will come good again. All the other games I play are cross platform so a change is definitely in order.

Halo's been dead since Reach man, I wouldn't expect too much.

Something else Microsoft have expertly managed to screw up.

...Actually thinking about it, the news isn't really that great, I mean its how it should be and how it has always been. If anything its worse because what isnt mentioned in that video is that now PS4 owners will have to pay a subscription fee to play online multiplayer.

So if anything the PS4 has lost a great appeal that the PS3 has... Still, a lot better than what MS have planne, urrgh.

This is what I was thinking about as well. Really Sony isn't "giving" consumers anything. All the cheers of approval at the conference we're rooted in relief, from everything taken away by Microsoft. Though regarding the mandatory PS+ subscription to play online; apparently each system only requires ONE membership. After that all accounts are able to online multiplay

As far as I'm concerned, Sony don't care about us. But that doesn't mean they wont deliver.

They exist for profit and the job of the people running it for the shareholders is to figure out the best way to make as much money as possible. Moreover they want to do so in a sustainable, long-term fashion.

Sony have realised that the best way to ensure the latter is to cater to the wants of its long term audience, which are enthusiastic and regular gamers. So called 'casual' gamers are notoriously fickle, so despite being a larger audience they are likely to tire quickly and move on to the next big thing. Microsoft have been taking big risks for the last half of the current generation because the latter audience is now their target, and will continue to be in the next generation, even more so than before. As we can also see, Microsoft are really shooting themselves in the foot with their plans for used games. They don't seem to have any coherent business plan. They seem to be run by complete quacks these days and controlled by older and more traditional shareholders.

Sony have realised that they can exploit the rising unpopularity of their rival by acting like the 'good guy' in this situation. The fact that they are not the 'good guys' however is neither here nor there. They know what their core audience want and they are planning on delivering. That alone makes the PS4 worth a heavy amount of consideration.

Personally I am going to be watching this closely. Hopefully the PS4 will build up a catalogue of impressive exclusives and continued deals on PS+. We already know their tech is incredibly impressive (GDDR5 being the most exciting for me.)

I'm totally skeptical about the quality of this upcoming generation of console if this one is any indicator. Since vidya games went full mainstream there has been a constant pouring out of shit, there's a gem now and then but it pales in comparison. I think I'm just going to stick with my PC games, I'm dying to get my hands on Rome II! Oh, and GTA V looks great as well though. Wish R* would port it to PC sooner.

Eh, they're just pandering to fans who didn't like the Xbox One, (read; everyone). They're doing the normal, practical thing that makes gamers happy, and in doing that, haven't made any siginificant changes, they're just flipping the bird at Mircosoft at this point. I could really care less though, I've pretty much made the tranisition to PC once and for all.
