I'm going through another phase of getting into a lot of out-there, Avant-Garde music and stuff like that and i'm interested to see what you guys think is the weirdest, most unique music that you've heard or own.
Also it's probably better to post something you like instead of just terrible obnoxious music.

Here are some albums i own that i consider the most out-there and weird:
Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante
Animal Collective - Danse Manatee
The Residents - Eskimo
Ween - The Pod
cLOUDDEAD - cLOUDDEAD
Can - Tago Mago (2nd half)
Fantomas - Delirium Cordia
This Heat - Deceit

Well it depends on the boundaries of weird-ness and freaky-ness we set... I mean, to me, "weirdest" stuff I have heard goes from:

Aube



to Sleep Research Facility



(and all that drone/ambient - also Satori - Kanashibari was a great album imho!)

to contemporary classical music, say, since I'm Italian, my fellow (sadly dead) Italian genius composer Fausto Romitelli:



which in fact is not that "freaky-weird", but nonetheless, rather unique.

But also, if you mean rather "odd" and silly-fun, there's some fun '60s/'50s weird music comps like Las Vegas Grind featuring obscure TV samples and sketches...

I think it should be based on how unique it is, plus things that most people would be like "what the fuck am i listening to"

I've recently been listening to Biota and Mnemonists, and especially the former is something that just completely blew me away with their uniqueness. Especially for it's time and as far as Krautrock goes Faust is something that is essential to bring up.

Have you ever heard Time Machines by Coil? I'd definitely rank it in that list of music that I find really, really strange.

You could probably say that about a large number of the early industrial acts. Einstuerzende Neubauten's - Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T. is a wonderful example of some well thought out, very strange music.

Ditto for any of their early 80s albums.

El Camino, most of the albums that you just listed were on my short list that I was going to mention. Particularly the Residents. Have you ever seen this live clip of them from 2004? One of the most surreal live performances I've ever seen. Ever.

And while we're at it: any musique concrete.

While I wouldn't necessarily class it as that weird, Yellow Swans were definitely one of the best and most unique noise acts out there. Going Places was beautiful.

The first very strange listen for me was "Ventolin EP" by Aphex Twin, but maybe in this forum this is too straightforward...

Nurse With Wound made some of the weirdest stuff I've heard until now, but I admit I haven't listened to him very much. I enjoyed "Who Can I Turn To Stereo" (one of the most accessible), it's a freaky trip about a time machine and Darkness Fish and other things, narrated with an italian accent

Finally I recommend Demdike Stare, although they're not that strange compared to the others...their sound is very dark, towards ambient but with interesting beats.

What it comes to my mind right now are Autechre's Quaristice; The Microphones' Mount Eerie; The Residents' Meet the Residents; Coil's Time Machines; Wolf Eyes' Human Animal; Mr. Bungle's Disco Volante and Animal Collective's ODDSAC.

Not exactly the weirdest, but I had a unique experience listening them for the first time.

Wow, that's crazy, especially those costumes! I've seen some of the clips of them touring that album with the weird biblical stories, but i haven't really heard much of their post-1980 output. Rumour has it that they lost a key member or two in 81 and so that might explain why their "golden era"went from meet the residents to the commercial album.

Tom Waits has a few albums that would definitely make the list.
Maybe some Kraftwerk,
Ween, for sure.
Suicide....
Arthur Brown, of course.

I'll also throw in some noise music like Wolf Eyes and Nurse With Wound.

I listen to a lot of noise/drone/avant-garde stuff, so my definition of weird could be different that yours. I don't consider that as weird.

My definition of "weird" starts to become a little more normalized every time I click on this forum's url.

But, you mentioning Ween reminds me of this classic.

Haha Ween are fucking awesome, i grew up on stuff like Ween and Mr. Bungle since i was 5 or 6 because of my dad and i still listen to all of it. It's weird, i never thought of Ween and Mr. Bungle as being that "weird" when i was really young, it just seemed as normal as other music that was on. It's only now that i realize how left-field people consider it.

For the record, Ween and Mr. Bungle is good music for kids because it's so playful and full of interesting sounds.

agreed! I love severed heads, especially city slab horror. Goodbye Tonsils is such a good song.
