But the stereo is shat......it sounds like ants farting in a tin can sometimes.


However, the head unit is remarkably good......especially when it hints at the below when i try and scroll past track 17 or go to track 1 and go back. It goes to 21



Could this indicate a potential 21 tracks on this CD?

I used to work in computer forensics for the local police and if i had the tools at my disposal and could remember the techniques, I would love to have a proper go at this.

Anyone else fancy a punt?

If it were me I'd try doing the same thing with an unrelated CD to rule out the possibility of it just being a shoddy CD player. If it turns out to be just the copy of Tomorrow's Harvest then I'm 100% convinced it's something.

You have me intrigued, especially with the video. Is this kind of thing possible? i.e. to hide tracks so well? I know nothing of the tech involved.

Still, I love mysteries like this even if they do turn out to be nothing. It's the journey, not the getting there after all

It hasn't done it for any CD yet............I have had the car 4 years and listen to CD's EVERY DAY

And yes, I tried it this evening with 3 other bought discs......didn't do it

EDIT: Its an Alpine CD player - not shoddy at all.

I wonder if Exact Audio Copy, or another similar ripper, could reveal an anomaly in the indexes or something. I have no idea how tracks could possibly be hidden like that, at least within the boundaries of the Red Book standard, but I think it deserves investigation. If something is there, it can be recovered.

In general I'd be able to help with this kinda thing but unfortunately i have no CD drive right now lolololo. What you want to do is run binwalk on an iso of the CD for a first estimation.

Would be VERY strange for there to be something as of yet undiscovered on the CD but I'm intrigued all the same.

Just to clarify.....the CD isn't doing all that spazzing at the start itself.....that's me trying to scroll past 17 and when it gets to 21......it jumps to track 1.

At the end, you see me playing Reach For The Dead and then scrolling back and it jumps to 21, then goes to 17 by itself.

Oh, one last thing.....at the end of every single bought disc in my car, it goes back to the start of the disc. On TH.........................it keeps repeating track 17

I can probably drag an ISO off the disc and I have a few of my "utilities" still but i'd have to install them, that will take a bit of time.

Appreciate any effort anyone else can make too

The moment my CD arrives, I'll look into this (probably obsessively! ). I suspect we'll have an answer by that point, though.

Compressed binary data at the end of the cd perhaps?

OMG, just checked the play surface (I know a little about cd pressing) and I'm not kidding - the cd is filled up to about 70mins or so !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also noticed this. My flatmate isn't even in so I can't get on to his computer to take a rip. If someone can take an ISO of the cd I will give them instructions to upload it to me so I can check it?

Sorry to be that guy but you can't make an .iso file (only a .bin or a single .wav of the entire disc) from an Audio CD unless it only has one track on it. Maybe ripping to .wav + .cue first would work.

I just download ISO buster and opened up TH. I picked a track at random (track 17 in this case).

You can search the track for "missing file". I did this and it found something, it found a file that is 30.58 MB in size, the size of track 17 is 35.69 MB.

Its possible to extract the "found file" but you have to pay for a full ISO Buster license to do that :-/

It could all be a load of balls for all I know, im not even sure what this "missing file" is. Anyone Clued up on ISO BUster?
