I really enjoyed the dreamy synth pop sounds of M83's other work, mainly Hurry Up We're Dreaming but this album completely blew me away.
Im sure most of us on here are into shoegaze greats like Slowdive, mbv and Pale Saints. Most reviews and comments I've read have put it inline with them, as one of the standout electro/shoegaze albums in recent times.
Seriously can't say enough about this just listen (extremely loud) and enjoy if you haven't already.

Thats correct. It seems he was the member with the shoegaze influence. He has a new band now called Team Ghost. They had a new album that came out this year which I'll have to check out.

This was the album that got me into M83. It's great. I like his new stuff a lot too. Saw him last year in Boston, it was excellent.

I think Boards of Canada fans would be very excited to listen to the very first M83 self-titled album -- it has a few subtle nods to BoC vibes at times and finds itself at a wonderful crossroads between a sci-fi soundtrack and playful, adolescent textures and melodies.

I agree with what you said. Their first album is actually my favorite; I'm Getting Closer is a really cool song. Apart from a select few tracks, Hurry Up, I'm Dreaming was kinda hard for me to get into. It's cool for what it is, just less geared towards my tastes.

Back around 2005 I went into town with soul purpose of buying a bottle of Robitussin and going to the record shop and getting a trippy looking album that I've never heard before to listen to as I robotripped and walked around. I got the bottle and drank the whole thing (fucking disgusting) and I went to the record shop to find a CD (for my CD Walkman, haha).... I looked for about a half an hour..... Right when the Robitussin started to kick in, I came upon this album... I had never heard of M83.... But it looked weird, the way the kids are just lying in the snow... and the name of the band was strange.... I felt that this was it, I had found the soundtrack to my trip. Like the missing triforce I was looking for. And Holy fuck was I right. What a trip it was. It was perfect and I didn't end up in jail. I was surprised when they came out with the last album which was very 80's retro pop with singing and hooks... It was great though and a welcome change and progression.
