Not sure if this has been asked before, but my first pick might be Boqurant, or something out of TH.

Semena Mertvykh or Boqurant for me, I reckon.

It probably has, but I'll answer Beware the Friendly Stranger like I did last time. Even a minor familiarity with the implied subject matter should be enough to depress anyone.

Powerline Misfortune is bleak as fuck.
From One Source All Things Depend is BOC's saddest track. (or most uplifting, depending on your beliefs.)

Jacquard Causeway.
It's depressing to know that was Boards of Canada.

i personally think that at one point or another, jacquard causeway will click for you. i understand how someone can find the track too far off-beat, and out of rhythm. but over time im hoping your ears can adjust and follow a different pattern, and help you to fall in love with the track.
or maybe you will go on hating it forever, who knows.
i understand people having a gripe with tomorrows harvest. but in my opinion, jacquard causeway is up there with the very best of BOC's work.

I think Jacquard Causeway is depressing, not because it's bad or anything, it's just depressing in the same sense that Cichli from Autechre's Chiastic Slide is depressing.

It's a sloppy beat with a bitcrusher and a melody that goes nowhere with various layers added and it sounds like they did it all in one take. It's not going to click, but thanks for the wishes. I listened 10 times before I couldn't stand it anymore (out of a total of probably 30 full album listens, of which the last 20 I skipped that track).

There's only one track that could well get more depressing with time:
That Warp20 locked-groove snippet of 'Spiro'... It's like the preview that never was!
Well, I'll be quite surprised if the proper song actually shows up in future, you know?

I'd say Basefree got me the most depressed. It was like a brick to my stomach, this was after years of owning the cd, it finally hit to me how depressing that song was.

In the Annexe

slow this bird down is the low point of tch and it's like going back to all the places that are all happy earlier on on the album and it's just eerie and not the same
so many songs off of geogaddi, but maybe either dandelion or corsair are the most draining, or in the annexe for the chords
skimming stones fits pretty well too but it goes on a little too long
personally though after thinking about it it's the surfaise wind trades mix. i dont know exactly why but it just seems so melancholy to me and the mood, atmosphere and imagery i get out of it depress the hell out of me. it gives me a "looking up at the stars in the night sky totally alone on a hill and being sad and lonely and whatnot" feeling
this, especially considering the name

I have to say, with the exception of some easly tracks, BoC never expressed sadness or depression for me. Not even Tomorrow's Harvest: it seems not to be aiming at "sadness", and more at "frankness". It's more about coming to terms with the facts rather than sulking over then, and I really like that approach.
