When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin - IV

I don't think a single human being could argue that's NOT the best live drumming sound of all time.

Although I am also quite partial to Phil Collins' gated reverb sound, it doesn't just stack up against that. I love that reverberation too much!

I'd be surprised if there were any other fans of The Blue Nile on here, but Saturday Night from Hats is a fantastic tune.

There's a fantastic analysis of the intro to When The Levee Breaks in the incredible 'Perfecting Sound Forever' by Greg Milner. Truly a wonderful book that anyone with designs on music production should devour.

Talks about Bonham recording his drums at the bottom of a flight of stairs in Headley Grange to get that booming reverb sound. (incidentally, Headley Grange is only an hour away from me - I really should swing past some time.)
