I don't get it. Doesn't fit at all, in my opinion.

Exactly my thoughts. Does not fit together at all!

yeah, kind of a lame application for the song. not that great of a commercial either. maybe they were hoping the song would save it

And entirely my thoughts too.

I think the commercial itself is tedious and poorly paced for starters, which is not great. A suitable music choice could have helped it, however. But RFTD - doesn't work. Fails to fit with the mood. In fact the choice sort of makes the whole thing worse, just because it seems so out of place. To echo Helios - the overall reaction is that I don't get it at all.

Actually, reminds me of certain mashups you might see on YouTube where someone has thought "What would this video be like if I swapped its proper soundtrack for something totally different just to see what it's like?" even when the pairing evidently doesn't belong.

The soundtrack probably should have been specially-composed for a short like this - but they took the easy option of "just slap a cool-sounding instrumental track on top of it" - and the result comes across as just that. Lazy and misjudged, I would say.

Yeah: the seriousness and awesomeness of the music totally contrasts the 'cookyness' of the ideas in the advert... the score makes it feel like the ad-makers were taking the visual side of the ad seriously, which is a joke given how... ridiculous it is.

My 2cents.

a few things.

i personally dont mind the fact that they put their music into a nike advertisement. its their choice to do whatever they want with their music. so i have no bias towards that.

the video itself isnt awful. i feel as though the idea behind the video is very creative and boundary pushing, but the video itself comes off as trying to be overly artsy. instead of really nailing the points.

the video itself is far too long for a commercial, so i am interested in seeing how it will be cut down.

reach for the dead is such a powerful song. the first time i heard it was during its first debut on some european radio show. when i heard it i remembered thinking to myself. my god this song sounds like the last 5 years of my life being played to me as a memory in audio form. the way the drums and synths build up during the song is indescribably beautiful.

Song + commercial. I don't get it.

The commercial itself just seems kinda self-indulgent, too.

I like this.
I like Boards if Canada.
I like Nike trainers.
I like skateboarding.
Brian Anderson is a good skater, remember him from the Toy Machine days.
Boards of Canada are sell outs for letting Nike use a track?
Their music has been used in BMW, Mercedes and Nissan commercials ffs!

Skateboards of Canada
