its gotten quiet here so i figure a fairly random new topic wouldn't hurt eh?

one of the things about BOC for me personally is the overlap in what appears to be general interests. fascination with decay, old sci-fi film scores, lost childhood, nostalgia, etc - so many of the things that brings us all here.

one of the things that i am kind of nutty about is my little trailer - its the tiniest house on wheels but i absolutely love it. 13' of fiberglass retro future design (it was made the year i was born - 1971). it has a stove, fridge, sinks, water tanks, shower, toilet, booth, bed, storage, lights, and solar - we are completely self-contained. i love heading off to Yosemite, Big Sur, or wherever we decide (Sedona is next). so one might imagine just how - i don't know - cool or validated (?) i felt walking up to the water park that day to see that beautiful Airstream and old Ford.



my friends think i am a little bit of a kook since i take it everywhere - and seeing this kinda was like 'alright - i am not alone' ...

anyway - does anyone have any thoughts on this significance of this prop? symbolic or literal? maybe its just about enjoying the simple things. i wonder if the Sandisons are/were (as kids) into Caravans (the proper term for travel trailers in the UK) or if its just a romantic notion of exploring the west out here in the states ....

i don't remember much discussion on the subject and since i was going over some photos today (i'll post below) - it kind of got me thinking about this again.

finally ... on the same trip (Yosemite) i inadvertently took a photo i call "Music Has The Right to Camping" (my wife was moving too fast but the blurred effect was somewhat reminiscent of an album cover i like, so i kept the photo):

I don't have many comments on the significance of the trailer, but i do remember it being not at all what i was expecting that day, and pretty cool. I have a special thing for airstreams.

That being said, STOP IT WITH THE RVs IN YOSEMITE!

Just kidding. Yours is actually pretty damn nifty, and i think an RVing boccer is better than a soccer mom from Georgia in a rental (i lived in Yos for 4 years and the RVs drove me insane). You find all kinds of creative ridiculous things to be upset about in beautiful places eventually.

......maybe the Airstream was just a nod to a future of nomadic existance post-grid. Or, perhaps it was just a Hipster LA idea of a good time. We might never know.

agreed! i know its something of a contradiction, but i hate the monster rigs (5 slide-outs, satellite, gennie, hot tub, etc.) yet i love every chance we get to pull up along side one and snap a shot. they are 3 to 4 times our length. having just a tiny bit of everything to enjoy some modicum of the comforts of home - but not home - is epic. in the end my iThing and plug in speaker allow for some solid BOC campfire time and like it or not, the neighbors get to enjoy it as well.

sorry for this gratuitous topic but i really do love the fact that they went to the trouble to have that truck and trailer there. kind of a "one more reason why i like BOC" thing.

I think it was a clever continuation of the imagery. I recall reading something about a big Coke advert, as well ("Under the Coke Sign").

ahhh - thats the quote. i knew i had read that somewhere before. thanks for digging that up. as for the Coke Sign - yeah we had that too (see below).

turns out it was 100% coincidence (when i asked the WARP fella if they had planned the Coke Sign he was surprised to know about it).
