Kid For Today/Amo Bishop medley played by my jazz group

Some of you have heard my Turquoise cover. That was a past (and beloved) group. I'm in a new city now and have a new group going. We do a medley of Kid For Today and Amo Bishop Roden.
This isn't the best performance of it nor a great recording, but I figure you might enjoy it nonetheless.

really nice work. i'm not the biggest fan of the saxophone, but that seemed absolutely fine to me. keep up the good work

Thanks for the kind words, folks. Hope we can do more in the future. The tunes that work best are the ones that have two or more chords, a memorable non-trivial melody. Strong rhythm is good too. Roygbiv is an obvious choice but it's already been done.

DISCLAIMER: I've tried and tried again to explain to our saxophone player that "bluesy" sounding shit isn't appropriate for Boards of Canada in any form but he can't seem to get it out of his system even for one song. Personally I find it entirely repugnant to the BoC mood or "vibe". That said--don't get me wrong--I think he's a good player.
Nah man, this is a great arrangement. And don't restrict your horn player, what he did here totally worked. Keep it up.

Who needs BoC live when we're getting all these awesome cover acts in emergence. Please keep it coming (and let us know if you're ever playing this stuff livestream).

Good stuff. The drumming could have been done in a more creative way. The horn was ok at first but at after he just goes off in a weird way-- I can see what you mean it doesn't fit very well. Granted you guys can try to use his style in a better way, it can work in a really cool way if done right. The bass was really tight-- loved it.

Personally, if I ever found myself wondering through a jazz bar and this was playing I would throw my entire wallet on stage (I'd probably keep my license and Starbucks gift card, but you can have the rest).

Thanks. There really is a lot going on in jazz that you would probably like. BoC covers, maybe not so much.

Totally agree, the guy on sax sounds like he knows what he's doing. No problems with his performance whatsoever.
Love the arrangement, fresh experience for familiar material. That Turquoise Hexagon Sun cover swells up in a really great way too, can't believe I hadn't heard it until now.

Glad it's not bothering anyone. He has a tendency to "bluesify" everything, and it worries me that it will make people associate us with smooth jazz or highly commercialized "jazz" but it seems to not be the case, so that's good. Should now be downloadable from the soundcloud page. Little downward arrow underneath the track.

Really nice. I quite like the background noises too, personally I always like recordings of Jazz in noisy rooms.

That's excellent mate; don't have much time for jazz to be honest but that's a very professional sound you've got going on and I'd be nodding along if I was there...
