Tracks can only be from chosen from released material only please!

With Aquarius being my favourite BOC track I have always wondered why Aquarius stands out so much. It's so unlike any other track of theirs. It's use of bass guitar and catchy hook combined with hauntingly dreamy pads make me think of summer sunsets by the coast. It sounds so summery in nature.

Dare I say it actually sounds more mainstream and accessible in comparison.

Both versions of Olson as well as Seven Forty Seven if you ask me, just how they sound is just, I don't even know

They just give off a extremely high amount of really good feelings

Dayvan Cowboy, just because, and I'm sure someone else has already said this, well it's their Stairway to Heaven, isn't it?

Zoetrope, because I think if I show it to my grandmother or to my grandson, or to whatever it be, they all find something in Zoetrope. It's like open old music box full of memory. Words can't describe Zoetrope, also it's very relaxing

Have to say Everything You Do Is A Balloon, not exactly sure why, other than it's most likely my favourite BoC track, and happens to be the one tune that really turned me onto them and got me hooked, and I know a few others who would say the same about EYDIAB. But, all great of course

Looking at it a different way - Reach For The Dead stands out a great deal. As much for all the events that led up to it, it marked a return and the first new sound in several years, and ultimately is just such a strong track. So not only musically... It also has that significance, of that moment and in the countdown to the album there as well; one of the defining songs.

Everything You Do Is A Balloon, because it gets the message through without any interference.

5.9.78 for being completely out of this world, a completely piece of magical music. Make the neck hairs stand on end.

Tears from the Compound Eye for being the most calm, solemn and beautiful track I have ever heard.

Dawn Chorus for being the only song which makes me feel genuinely disorientated in a good way.

Melissa Juice. The joyous longing for another person present in this song fills me with youthful exuberance.

i always have a tough time with threads like these, because you just want to go on and on with naming different tracks that stand out for one reason or another.

but i think if you examine BOC's catalog, and really try and pick a track that stands out, but yet at the same time defines what they do, i guess you would have to go with julie and candy.

its not my favorite track of their's, although it is def. among my favorites. but i just feel as though its a very good interpretation of what the brothers do


there was a flute in that track that loops the entire time, and yet i never picked it up until after years of listen. and i also think its pretty awesome how at one point in the song it feels as though its all turning sideways. if that makes any sense, lol

yeah that's a great song. the brothers said in an interview that the whole melody is composed of flute samples run through tape over and over again

Basefree or XYZ, probably. First one is just atypical for boards and the latter sounds as if RDJ came over to Hexagon Sun and made a track with their samplers partially pre-loaded for Chinook and whatnot.

Not counting old tunes stuff which is a totally different story.

Their scope is really variable though and that's why this sort of question is difficult. There's no particular Boards sound, they've changed with each release for the most part to some degree. I made a video about it along with NIN and Radiohead covering the same sort of thing.

Yeah, I may agree with you, but for me it's more calmer and chilling than Zoetrope, I mean, just listen to it, it has that relentless melody, that track is pretty heavy imho, now I see why BoC play it live, it's pretty mental

Also An Eagle In Your Mind should have been made it It's not my favorite from MHTRTC... BUT it has this epic build to that "shift of melodies" at almost 3 minutes, dunno how to call that... and its has immediate hook on new listeners, which is pretty awesome, I'd say

There are so many and this question just isn't fair...

As someone already mentioned-- Zoetrope.

A perfect emotional balancing act full of long forgotten memories. I think it's one of their most unique and beautiful pieces. It is also their first track that I ever heard and will always be special to me for that reason alone-- it introduced me to my favourite artists.

Whitewater.

It still gives me chills after all these years. The sesame street sample really resonates with me.

I love Oscar See Through Red Eye, it's probably my favorite BoC song, so it's special to me

Over The Horizon Radar is powerful and gives me wierd feelings for reasons I can't point out, but so does other songs in Geogaddi. That whole album is pretty far out there.

It's a tough question for sure, but as of now I'd go with Semena Mertvykh. It's such a grim and harrowing track, unlike anything else I've ever heard from BoC. It's also the first we got to hear from Tomorrow's Harvest. In a way it signaled a grand return, and also how things had changed.

Welcome aboard - I agree OSTRE is probably my favorite track from that album. I am trying to listen to TCH with a more forgiving ear lately and trying to find new things to love - its been my least favorite of their proper albums for awhile. I'm now the age that they were when they released it and I can feel my youth and carefree days slipping away too and I've been feeling like that album was the last gasp of their youth, TH is a lot harder and more cynical, but it's not a bad thing.

In any case, it's hard to pinpoint a favorite specific track, An Eagle in Your Mind is the track where it all clicked for me, first listening to MHTRTC. Moments aside from MHTRTC, Everything You Do is a Balloon definitely hits that spot from prior releases, Nothing is Real does the same but with their current material. I think it's also interesting that it has those old time chill inducing warm melodies, but the title and vocal sample tell a different story. I guess Old Tunes is off the table but the Boqurant > 5-9-78 sequence is SO good that it has to be mentioned.

Hmm bloody tough question.
I'd say the one that stands out most to me is Aquarius. Whenever I listen to it, it makes me feel like a kid again, a time of innocence and a time when life wasn't so damn complicated.
