First post, but here goes.
I have strong reason to believe that the vocal basis of the songs '5d' and the official release 'Seven forty seven' are a direct sample of the last ten or so seconds of 'Off your face' by MBV. I am totally aware that boards say they recreate as opposed to sample, but it sounds too accurate to not be. My bloody valentines live sound has also been referred to as 'Like a seven forty seven taking off' by music magazine(s). Anyway, give '5d' a listen and listen to the end of 'Off your face' and let me know what you think

Welcome aboard. Good spot! They are supposed to be huge admirers of MBV so this makes sense to me being an early track. By sampling a part from one of your musical heroes and making it your own is perfectly feasible and being a tribute to them too.

I can hear what you mean, it's the right kind of thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was something they recorded themselves, just in terms of the way it's sampled, specifically in Seven Forty Seven. It sounds so much clearer there. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that Off Your Face was an inspiration for the sample, but I don't think these two are the same.

Does anyone think the end part of To Here Knows When sounds like the end of Slow This Bird Down?

I'd say it's pretty likely they've created some MBV-style guitar sounds, or even parts of MBV tunes themselves for use in their own stuff. They're probably heavily treated before use, though.
In interviews they've mentioned a number of times that they sample themselves playing and at least on one occasion they've recreated rather than sampled a tune they wanted to use.
Their thing seems to be to hint at, rather than directly reference stuff, at least on their later, 'official' albums.
