Checking this out for sure.

I noticed awhile ago while working on a school project that Geogaddi and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari match strangely well, though not perfectly considering the lengths. A carnival scene from that plus Julie and Candy's calliope sounds matched perfectly.

I definitely think that old silent film visuals in general match well with the album, and that the creepier the images the better.

Would be interested to know what people think.
The youtube version includes the bonus track which is the first to occur after the end of the film, but I find it has it's own context relative to it.

The first 10 minutes or so seem pretty connected, but it sort of trails of after that.
I can't properly judge unless I do a proper with Movie Maker or something, but this does seem like a really good idea.
Ready Let's Go has always reminded me of the start of a film, not in a Gemini-style way, but in a kind of "opening shot of A New Hope after the titles" kind of way.

Retouching on this after a while as I have finally uploaded it in full.


There is a dip in connectivity around the beginning but for those that don't have the time to watch it in full, skip around the video a little bit and read the words in reference to the music as it helps add context to both the music and the visuals.

After watching, I think that while this works and makes for a neat experience - if it was intentional BoC probably would have made all the tracks fit, not just some of them.

Of course it could be that when they were almost done with the record they synced it up and changed some parts to match as well. Either way this is amazing, intentional or not.

I find that if one tries their best to empathise with dante and what must be going through his mind at different moments that in its entirety it fits incredibly well, each track changes when the mood changes. I will watch it and add a list of connections below.

Ready Lets Go fits perfectly with the introductory messages.

Music Is Math starts off complimenting dante's appearance in a woodland and gradually becomes darker as more supernatural beings reveal themselves, as they descend into the first circles it becomes creepier and there is a specific sound for when virgil is granted access to hell (hand held out by beatrice) and when he holds his hand out to dante to ask him to follow. It is also reminiscent of the video where the divers walk underwater in the official video as to when dante and virgil walk down into purgatory.

Beware the friendly stranger starts the second the boat to purgatory sets off to transport the dammed souls.

Gyroscope begins as soon as they arrive in the part of purgatory with lost souls.

Dandelion happens in time with dante meeting the men of science, the speaking fits well with virgil speaking and the music after each section of speech is relfected in the scientists seemingly visually absorbing this information.

Sunshine Recorder starts the second they are face to face with the demon who judges souls and assigns them a place in hell, the rest of the song fits well with souls floating around in the skies. This track ends when they get to the lower circle.

In the Annexe starts as soon as they reach the circle with the spendthrifts constantly rolling around bags of riches for eternity and musically fits up well to what is on screen.

Julie and candy starts the second they begin walking into the lower circle from the one above and the beat fits up incredibly well with what is happening on screen and a lot of changes in the music happen with changes on the screen. A one off drum sample plays when virgil is denied access, fitting very well with the mood, the final pattern fits up perfectly with the medusa like creatures appearing and dancing with snakes. This track ends when a soul of antiquity suddenly arises from his tomb.

The smallest weird number begins as the soul of antiquity starts to gesture and tell stories, fitting up with his movements and the surreal nature of what he is telling dante about his future (the weird thing is that dante predicted his own exile in this story and it became true)

Nineteen sixty nine begins as the fires start to grow so strong that they must leave. The beat fits incredibly well with the rain of fire falling in the circle they enter, as if it is the actual sound of the props they would have been using for it. The trippy ascending keyboard begins as they ride a twirling dragon.

Energy warning begins as soon as the torturers enter the room in the 'flashback' sequence and the talking almost comedically fits up to the gestures and lip movements of the man.

The beach at redpoint begins as the man wakes up from his torture with bandages on his eyes and, discovering he is blind, breaks his own skull on the floor to end his life. Fits very well in terms of how the video quality degrades a little bit here, it seems to fit with the movements of the reel of tape. It fits very well with the circle that they descend into also, with the demons running around lashing people with whips.

Opening the mouth starts as they are overlooking the lake of condemed souls bound to eternally clean themselves and serves as a good interlude.

Alpha and Omega begins at a perfect time and each of the strange 'reel slowing down' noises fits to dante and virgil floating down and then floating up from the ground again. Weird glitches in the film are accompanied by one off samples here if one looks closely. The instrumentation fits very well with what is happening to the bodies on screen and fits with the jerky nature of the filming strangely well. When the man jumps into the river of boiling pitch to avoid being capured by the demons, a one of sample plays to accompany it. The final bit of the track with metalic radio noises fits up well with the people in lead jackets doomed to forever carry this weight with them.

I saw drones begins as they ascend a cliffside to another area. Nice interlude between two circles.

The devil in the details begins as they are approaching the circle with the snakepit and theives being tied up by snakes/ dancing snakes. This track is incredibly fucking snakey. There could not be a better musical accompaniment to what is happening on screen than this track !

A is to B as B is to C begins as the strange part with backmasked talking happens as the man carrying his own talking head appears and fits up well with lip movements and aesthetically fits very well. The section of the track that then turns into 'we love you all' and madness fits as they enter a section of hell where the mad and delusional are left amongst themselves in their own personal hell. The 'we love you all' part fits very well with a maddened person running through the set.

Over the horizon radar begins as Dante recognises, amongst the maddened, a person he had known in the real world. Feeling helpless to do anything, they move on saddened and the track ends.

Dawn Chorus begins as they start to enter the cold center of hell. This is reserved for the souls that one feels truly do belong fixed in the ice so the feeling of dread and empathy diminish somewhat. It begins as giants lower them into this circle and fits very well with the snowy environment. Almost like fucking christmas bells.

Diving Station is a flashback song hence the earthly piano. This begins as one of the souls fixed in the ice tells of his imprisonment in the tower of piza and the scene cuts to a flashback of said event.

You could feel the sky begins the second they in the tower of piza are scentenced to starve to death. The twisting ropey sound accompanying the feeling of one's stomach shrinking and dying very well. The feeling of this track is continued as the flashback ends and they are in the true dark, icey center of hell. The drones in the background fit very well to this feeling. The second the devil's face is revealed the backmasked voice 'A god with horns a god with hooves' plays and the clicking noises in the background fit very well with the visuality of the devil crunching through human bones and the ropey-stretching sound is repurposed as the breaking of human skin by teeth. The devil opens his mouth and gestures as the vocal sample plays almost comedically in time with this. This track lasts until the second they leave this circle and enter the passageway above.

The extended silence between this track and corsair lasts exactly as long as it takes them to navigate the passage back to earth and Corsair plays as soon as they have reached the earth to behold the stars again and the credits roll. An eerie nostalgic track as dante tries to figure out everything he has just seen.

the version with italian intertitles is 65:08, Geogaddi without Magic Window is 64:20, the title and opening credit stuff takes 46 seconds, so 64:22, 2 seconds longer, and it takes 2 seconds for Ready Lets Go to rip.. 1 of silence, 1 of hiss, then bam! Dante's like "!? where's that coming from? oh well "

24 divisions, 24 tracks:
The deeper levels are organised into one circle for violence (Circle 7) and two circles for fraud (Circles 8 and 9). As a Christian, Dante adds Circle 1 (Limbo) to Upper Hell and Circle 6 (Heresy) to Lower Hell, making 9 Circles in total; incorporating the Vestibule of the Futile, this leads to Hell containing 10 main divisions. This "9+1=10" structure is also found within the Purgatorio and Paradiso. Lower Hell is further subdivided: Circle 7 (Violence) is divided into three rings, Circle 8 (Fraud) is divided into ten bolge, and Circle 9 (Treachery) is divided into four regions. Thus, Hell contains 24 divisions in total.

Dante published Divine Comedy in 1321, shortly before his death. 3, 2, 1... Ready Lets Go?

there's many more bits and stuff, there's a very funny one at 48:46 where the wobbly intro of AITBABITC plays as someone is transformed into a serpent monster. there's another one where they enter the 4th circle and you see Pluto there, they stop for a moment and when they go you hear the "bye bye, bye bye bye" as Sunshine Recorder ends and In the Annexe plays as everyone pushes the giant bags.. throughout 21:09-21:54 when they're going to the city of Dis thru the river, you see flashes/smoke on the sky, the fx's from Julie and Candy are very fitting here, specially at 00:21:33.760, then at the end the angel from heaven opens the gate with her wand (25:28-25:33), and the beautiful melody ceases, following along her swinging.

"Geogaddi was kind of exorcising demons, and even after we'd set out to do a record like that, smack in the middle of working on it, 9/11 happened. I remember there were a few of us in the studio that day, and we just ended up glued to the TV for the whole day. I think the months after that pushed us into making a darker record, as I'm sure it did with a lot of bands."

btw i was reading up this section in bocpages:
"Gaddi was also the surname of two father-and-son Italian painters of the early Renaissance, Taddeo Gaddi (c.1300-1366), and Agnolo Gaddi (c. 1350-1396). The work of both artists is largely concerned with angels, saints, and the Madonna."

I looked them up, Taddeo had another son, Giovanni Gaddi (after 1333–1383), also a painter. GioGaddi lol! i think it'd be very worth to append it to that section
