At the risk of embarrassing myself in front of the biggest fans of one of my favorite bands of all time, I wanted to ask if this track reminds anyone of BoC.

It's from another Scottish band, Simple Minds, and was recorded in 1982. I was dumbstruck by the similarities, and was wondering if anyone else hears it. It's not just the synths, which is somewhat obvious, but also the entire "sense" of the song. Even the title seems BoC-esque.

I'd love your thoughts, even if you disgree with my assessment.

Wow, I was going to post this a couple of years ago. There are a couple of BoC songs I've heard the ghost of old Simple Minds songs in.

can't say it reminds me of BoC but it's been a favorite of mine since I first heard it as a kid. nearly passed out when I saw Simple Minds last October and they played this live.

It's funny you'd bring them up. It's my favorite Simple Minds album. I heard at one point they had worked on a material after this but it was too much like New Gold Dream and they scrapped it. Honestly I wish they'd release it because that was the strongest most cohesive time of their career. New Gold Dream is as comprehensive and total album I've ever heard, a soundtrack for heaven, as one reviewer put it. Very few bands get an album like that in their career where every song pretty much nails it and it flows perfectly from one track to the next. You realize hearing something like this how critical song placement on albums, and what an art to achieve that, it really was.

I find SM too expansive and summery to remind me much of BOC though. They are all glimmer and shinny summer days for me whereas BOC is internal feverish and somewhat claustrophobic for me (in a good way)

Blimey, I used to love that track. I used it as a soundtrack for a crappy animation I did, back in 1990 at art college.

Not really hearing to to be honest, I sort of get what you mean, it could be similar to one of the Old Tunes tracks, but beyond that I don't hear it.

I hear a little flicker of monosynth that could be BoC-ish but that's about it. I still really like that period of Simple Minds - Empires and Dance, Sons and Fascination, New Gold Dream. Shame it all went horribly wrong and bombastic after that.

I can understand how someone else would arrive at saying they sound similar, but I do not believe they sound similar

I don't really see the similarity, but Simple Minds, in their early 80s form, must run away with the prize for most underrated band, ever.
Even with all the re-appreciation of rock/pop music's history, particularly the post-punk era and synth pop, they barely get a mention.

it reminds me of high school....not BoC at all.
