bocpages' page on it is 100% blank, and I don't know much about it, other than the piano. I'm trying to figure out the background noise, but I don't know what it is. So if anyone has any clue, any information is helpful. Sorry, I'm new.

There did use to be some speculation on the background noise there. Weird.
Concensus is its something slowed down but ive never managed to hear any speech when you speed it up. I also think it has a sawtooth filter on the amplitude that itself speeds up and slows down on a LFO... a similar one is used on the voice in Devil Is In The Details.
Its a creepy track. Like being stranded at sea.

There is most certainly speech on this track, towards the end. Echoed.

Speech? I never imagined it would have speech. I just cannot believe the mystery behind this track. Someone said on last.fm it samples "from the movie "voyage to the prehistoric planet"". Interesting.

Just checked the Wayback Archive, and this is the only thing I found:
[Pete from Phaelam] suggests that the creaky sounds in the track are slowed down human speech, and also says that if the whole track is speeded up until it is only 11.5 seconds long, then it sounds like "we hate you all, we hate you all, [laughter]".

Actually, listening to it on Windows Media Player, sped up by 8x, it does indeed sound like a voice saying "we hate you all".

Of all the fucked up tracks on Geogaddi, I've never found this one particularly sinister. I know I'm in the minority here. I just think it's nice. Leslie Nielsen, some backwards music...lovely.

I can confirm that Diving Station is indeed sinister.

You ever listened to Dandelion 'forwards' as it were? It is beautiful, surprisingly beautiful. The melody is gorgeous.

I have actually. I think it was on one of those podcasts that Mikey from these forums did. The one with the theory that all the BoC songs are written to be played backwards as well as forwards. I don't buy that particular theory, but that particular song was obviously written then reversed for the track.

Now I listen to it, speeding Diving Station up far enough it sounds like someone playing the bongos.

Bongos? I've never heard that...

The sound quality of this is so wrecked I'm guessing this is legit to post? If not I'll remove it. This is it at about 8x speed.
Once you listen past the tinkling (piano) and the rising and falling tone (that's the amplitude modulation which speeds and slows on a sine wave) you hear what sounds like this drum loop. I say bongos, it's like toy drum sounds almost, but that could just be I've sped it up a bit too far. It's crazy cos this rhythm is just NOWHERE when you play it at normal speed.

Diving Station is one of the creepiest tracks on Geogaddi IMO. It gives me this strange, slightly unpleasant sensation in my spine whenever I listen to it. I've only heard one other song ever that manages to do that (Line Two by Ophidian Enterprises).
