I guess I'll kick it off...

I bought this neat vinyl from the 80's at a secondhand store. It features punk/psychedelic songs from the 60s and along with it I found a nice sounding version of Prince's "Purple Rain" Vinyl, a scratched up version of America's "Homecoming" vinyl for $0.50 and the CD single to The Avalanches Frontier Psychiatrist!

Just yesterday I decided i'd give myself some presents.

Don't seem to be listening to a lot of IDM lately.

I haven't bought any music in a while. The last two purchases I made were one for a Gordon Bok record (which was gorgeous as always) along with a few cassettes of classical raga from Andhra Pradesh, Soliloquy by David Qualey, and some traditional Scottish music repectively. The other one was a Nick Drake bootleg record of demo recordings and Honeysuckle Æons by Current 93.

But the last BIG purchase I did (not very recently) was the monolithic Merzbient vinyl box set composed of 18 records. I took a long time to buy anything else after that for obvious reasons.

Oh, and I bought sheet music for Redwood Ramble by Robbie Basho, but it's going to take a long time for me to master that piece.

I got a vinyl copy of Cosmogramma for Christmas if that counts! Really need to start searching for the ever-elusive Autechre vinyls tho!

I'm broke, so the last thing I bought were MHTRTC and SOTL's Refinement of the Decline on CD for a very good friend of mine, ages ago.

As soon as my first paycheck in ages comes through I'm getting a Dominos, and another vinyl album. Maybe something by Talk Talk

They aren't that elusive on Discogs. Kind of pricey, but there are definitely much more expensive artists. You just need to save up for every purchase.

Demdike Stare - Tryptych

Over 2 hours of absolute darkness there. That should keep me going for a little while.

I just went to a record store in Heidelberg and got:

• A German compilation of traditional music from Nepal. It has a 14-page booklet of information on it, but it's all in German, so it isn't too easy to read.
• Arik Brauer's self-titled album, which is apparently some weird old krautrock shit that I've never heard of.
• La Connectique 12" by Celluloïd Mata, which I just got because it said "HYMEN" on the cover under a picture of a sperm cell. Must have been a good choice because Discogs has it labeled as "rhythmic noise".
• Come to Daddy EP by You-Know-Who.

I have no idea what any of it sounds like (aside from Come to Daddy, of course), and will continue to not have any idea until I get back to my record player next month.

There were a couple of other good albums I wanted (namely Amygdala by DJ Koze) but they were 30 fucking euros each. Fuck that.

Just went into London and bought the latest Flying lotus album and "Hail To The Thief" by Radiohead.

I REALLY want to buy "Burial - untrue" on vinyl and also flying lotus "when the quiet comes". Hopefully next time I'll see them.

Also if autechre ever reissue Lp5 on vinyl I'm buying it definitely. It's my favourite album of theirs

Unless you do it for sentimentality and the artwork (which is why I primarily buy vinyl), Burial seems a really odd thing to get on vinyl. It is intentionally lofi digital work.

I get your point but that argument is moot when you consider that around 99% percent of vinyl has gone through some sort of digital mastering process since 1979. You'd be extremely hard pressed to find contemporary vinyl releases which are pure analogue products, two exceptions are 'mbv' and 'The Beatles in Mono' box set which came out not so long ago. This quote sums it up:

..an increasing number of albums after 1979 went through digital processing before being cut to vinyl, even if they were recorded on analogue tape. By the mid-'80s it was standard practice to master it onto a thing called a 1630 -- it was like a big videocassette but it was digital -- and that was the production master that all the records were cut off of. So even though all of the records we made were recorded analogue, they went through a digital process at the very last step

So yeah, whilst Burial is intentionally lo-fi digital and buying it on vinyl seems superfluous if your going for fidelity, you could argue that same point for most of the music pressed to vinyl in the last 30 years. Nonetheless, I still think there is something different about vinyl, even if its digitally sourced and pressed, must be the kinetic energy of the needle-in-groove doing something different to the music.

You could argue that point, and the whole fidelity issue is one thing I haven't used in a long time as a reason to buy vinyl. But particularly in Burial's case it just seems even more pointless, the music wasn't even made with the format in mind, it was made primarily using audacity and other such basic tools and is already really noisy and grainy. In terms of the warmth that vinyl may or may not lend to music, I don't think that applies here either. This music doesn't seem to me to be warm in any sense, it is a very cold flat sound which I think is what Burial goes for.

I suppose it mainly comes down to my taste, it wouldn't seem right to me because of what he was going for and how he made it.

As an aside, although I like his music, I don't enjoy it. It is utterly depressing and is positively dripping in London concrete and cigarette ash, which is where he and I already live.

I'll sell you my collector's edition copy of it. It isn't in near mint, though (and I won't be able to ship until after August 9th or so). It hasn't been played that much, so the vinyl and the interior is fine, but there are some marks on the front cover that somehow got there through mysterious causes that are unknown to me.

Definitely not selling my copy of that one, though. I had to pay a pretty penny for a NM copy of my precious LP5. I wouldn't count on any Autechre LP ever getting reissued, either. Unfortunately, ae (or maybe them Warp fatcats) don't seem too keen on reviving their old releases, which makes it a tough life for us fans.

That is what is so gorgeous and evocative about it though, but I get that it might be different for someone immersed London's insular world. In any case, I can confirm that Hyperdub at least pressed it well, because my copy is bloody larvelly

Gaussian Curve - Clouds

This album I kinda stumbled upon, I think it was a jam session from a Dutch band that turned into an album, either way, it's really good stuff. Relaxing but not boring.

Fuzzoscope is one of my favorite labels. just ordered this tape over the weekend!

I just bought an original press of Aerial Boundaries by Michael Hedges, probably due to the implicit exposure of that albums name on this board. No prizes for guessing

I would love to have more of him on vinyl but unfortunately his later work was during the era after vinyl and before it's resurgence, so I don't believe any of it after a certain point was ever pressed.

All NM+ media original pressings. It seems that the kind of people who used to listen to him took great care of their wax, they are by far the cleanest sounding second hands I have.
