ROYGBIV has been on youtube pretty much since inception....now its gone?! i didn't think WARP or the BoC cared.

Me too. I've just spent 20 minutes playing the video on this page and the one in youtube and pausing the one then the other to try and get them lined up so they phase. Fuck me I'm bored.

Maybe it's just unavailbele in the US, because I can't see it either.

It's more than just Roygbiv, it's a ton of BOC stuff on Youtube removed from at least US viewing. I'm even seeing Autechre stuff in the same boat now. Warp WTF? Why would they even bother?

Doesn't bother me too much considering how I've got it all in my Winamp library, but this is still rather disconcerting on a larger scale.

It seems like it's just MHTRTC songs that have been blocked. You can still listen to them auto-generated #boardsofcanada youtube channel, but there are no videos, just static images of the album cover and some words on the side.

I can't get anything from Twoism either. I wonder if mdg's got any word on the matter?

Just fyi, there's an auto-generated youtube account called "#boardsofcanada" (note the hashtag in front) that has all of BoC's officially released works on it. These videos serve as the source for YT's content ID system wrt BoC's music, so they'll never get taken down/blocked. That means peeps in the US can still listen to the songs on those videos. It still sucks, however, that the fanmade videos get taken down though :/

Organization makes sense there, good to know, but why is Warp having so many videos outside of those set to playable in some regions only? That feature is for controlling release of content on a region basis right? Even a possible reaction to the SC dump stuff going on doesn't explain it. Why would they bother basically region-locking videos about multiple artists on their label that have been on there for a good while now? Why even bother?

A lot of songs are being taken down for a lot of warp artists.

It's due to the new YouTube subscription service, a lot of other labels content is being pulled. Supposedly you can get access back to them if you subscribe for a fee every month

Weird if that's it, you'd think those videos would get marked private like Youtube claimed they would, not region-locked. Ohh wait, that would be the easiest short-term way to start the rollout in the US only like they said.

It's not just Warp artists, the Beatles have had a lot of their songs blocked in the US too. God fucking dammit youtube.

Youtube's had a particularly aggressive system of blocking copyrighted music in Germany, from what I can tell they extended that to the United States. Also, the sponsored uploads have pretty much no search ranks whatsoever and get completely crushed by remixes and whatnot in the search results when trying to find the song. Quite frustrating. I very much doubt that Warp would even consider lifting a finger to do anything about this but I really would like them to. Seems to do nothing but reflect poorly on everyone involved.

Also, I still don't get why this only seems to affect songs from Twoism, Music Has The Right To Children, and Tomorrow's Harvest.

Welp, there goes the one makeshift streaming service worth anything. Should have expected it after they started their own music streaming platform (a post in the angry rant thread or its own thread about this sort of thing is long overdue and shall be coming from me very soon).

If it's blocked on YouTube, you can't find a single upload of it and you needed YouTube to begin with for whatever reason, it's probably just to finally get around to either fetching a torrent or buying whatever it was. That is, if this becomes a worldwide thing in heavy effect.

There also presumably goes a whole lot of admirable content creators if that "must be in the ad-free pay zone" this is true. I know many people who fund their work and provide for themselves at least to some extent via YouTube and the ones I support cater to a group of people intelligent enough to get ad-block so it's of no consequence that they monetize their videos because they'll get enough ad revenue from their non-essential fanbase. If they now have to choose between doing this or getting anything at all, a lot of them will be losing their crowd, whether it be out of cost, principle, the mere fact that a transaction has to occur, etc...hopefully I misread that though skimming through it and someone here can correct me. Surely, I *cannot* have read that article correctly. This reads like one of many things that end up being rolled back almost immediately because everyone hates it. Microsoft-esque decision making or something.

Aren't you glad youtube isn't the only video-streaming site.
