Original HiScores appreciation thread

i have wanted to make this post for sometime...guess now is just as good as any.

this has always been a sleeper favorite of mine. it gives me the same feeling as m9 but even more powerful. in my opinion it is one of their most powerful tracks. the visuals i get in my head are just so vivid when listening to this track. i see a crowded city street, children playing in the front lawn, a shuttle leaving the atmosphere, a cliff jumper, a time lapse sky, a time lapse plant growing, a pinwheel spinning, protest, a public speaker, race cars whizzing by, a bird diving in the water a coming up with a fish in his mouth, a mountain climber, a high school basketball game, machine gun turrets, a kiss at a wedding, a funeral, a mother holding a child, a lonely teenager staring out the window at the rain, a city sky line at night, some very thick dense deep woods, a balloon floating in sky, sunrise, sunset, an argument between a couple, the wall falling, mushroom clouds, various images of famous figures in time waving, summer, spring, autumn, winter, and as it fades out a child play hop scotch and the camera zooming out to the city, state, country, planet and all the way out to space and beyond.

yeah so ok i get alot of these images when listening to BoC anyway. their music is so visual, but this song sounds like it came right out of a documentary film i saw at the omni as a kid. alot of their music has that quality and a documentary feel...this one truly captures that feeling with no kickn beats or haunting vocals, its very straight forward. i love how it makes me feel everytime i listen to it...

thats the beauty of their music. each track makes me feel a different way...they hold their own stories...this one is no expection.

so here is to you original hiscores...

Dude... thank you so much for posting this thread. It's one of my absolute favorites. I understand your visuals completely. The way it slowly builds... then the little "do do do do do" part comes in.

Tbh, that would make a great video. Now get to recording!

Is this the 'Hi Scores' from the EP of the same name or the short track, 'Hiscores', from 'Old Tunes Vol. 2'?

I like the EP version better, but the original is damn good as well. Has a neat little melody.

What I don't understand is, how did the original turn into the version we know from the EP? Are they related in any way other than the name? Same goes for the original Happy Cycling from A Few Old Tunes. What's with that?

I guess he is refering to the one from OT Vol2. The 3:38 one.

They're both great tracks but I do love the OTV2 one. It's an early 80's, winter afternoon, after school TV vibe for me.

It's really a great track, my fave off old tunes I think. Simple and emotive.
I really like BOC without all their technical wizardry, just an idea on a track without any of the trimmings.
Makes it a lot more mysterious I think, because it still has such a great impact.
