No Autechre - feed1 thread ?

I'm disappointed in you, This Random Sound. It's easily the best thing I've heard from 2016 (thought I haven't really heard anything from this year so far). LP 12 is going to be incredible.

I don't know how they manage to keep breaking new ground after 25 years already.

That's really cool. I love how they're warping space with the reverb. Can't wait to hear more of this.

Also, sorry, I had no idea. Sadly I don't get alerts when anything autechre happens.

Well they're my favorite band after Current 93 so I make sure to stay up to date with the ae.

sounds like Autechre. Nothing really new in my opinion.

Well that's where we differ because I've listened to their full discography and I can confirm that they've never, ever gotten this wild before. This track is even crazier than Gantz Graf.

Yeah. Reminded me a little of Gantz Graf on a first listen.

Neighbours are playing bad pop/rnb at festival volumes over the back so might point the speakers in their direction with this playing.

I just have an issue with Autechre's music over their past few releases,
I feel that at this point - if they turn up the darkness or the abstraction or tune down the melodic sensibilities, their music doesn't really sound like a progression past the sound of previous records.

Maybe this is my ear being tuned to more melodic and accessible fair, but after their LP5 to Untilted era, they haven't really made anything which sounds that remotely different.
They have a sound which is recognisably them, yeah, but their music also sounds kinda faceless at this point.
What record is this, what track am I listening to, what's it really matter in the end, it's Autechre.

But on the flip side I was listening to some Merzbow this evening. You could probably say the same thing about him.

That's what most of Autechre's former fans say. I started listening to them when Exai came out (a couple of months after, actually, because it completely dodged my musical horizons) and had no idea how intricate their stuff was until I listened to it. Maybe I'm biased because I listened to their discography anachronistically but I can't get enough of their newer style. It sounds like absolutely nothing I've heard before, and they have to be the only musical act out there that has so many interesting ideas packed so densely. It's extremely refreshing, and I could listen to their tracks a thousand times and still not absorb everything about it.

Yeah, he's a much bigger offender of what you just described. I really love the stuff Merzbow did in the '80s and early '90s (so much that I spent nearly $200 on the Merzbient vinyl boxes, the most money I've ever put down on a single music purchase), but he must have gotten tired of experimenting after that because his releases all sound exactly the same to me these days. I wish he would have stuck to his analog recording style with the homemade junk instruments. Metalvelodrome is still a cool album, though.

Bite your tongue. You gotta listen. Quaristice is awesome. (Oversteps has some super sick stuff in there. You just need to spend time with it. Not skip through or one time it.

Reminded me of Richard Devine's asect:dsect for some reason. I still listen to the early Autechre records but haven't found the recent releases very interesting.

Massive fan of Amber, LP5, Untilted and their mid-90's eps. Some of the greatest electronic music ever made imo.

No one can accuse them of selling out, I quite admire their single-minded, uncompromising belief in their art, but sometimes I wish they would lighten up a bit !

This new track is okay. I think....

Lol, it was me... Did it in a hurry, did you noticed?

No comment from me on the track yet... Did it at the time of Gantz Graf and only noticed the power of the track after multiple listens.

“I guess we have to trust our instincts that we enjoy this and some other people will too. A lot of people do talk our language – not that many – but just enough perhaps to make it worthwhile and to make enough people feel good, because that’s all we want. I’m not saying like we’re Groove Armada or anything like that, but if something happens in a track that we like, we want other people to like that bit as well. Not just in general, ‘oh I like Autechre, generally’ it’s like, if I see some post like ‘that bit at 5.06 just kills me’ that’s where it’s at for me.” Rob Brown

Perhaps it is just not for you
I find it totally fascinating.

It was even a conscious effort to “separate the wheat from the chaff really, in terms of listeners.”

“We don’t mind admitting that, all our albums have divided people one way or another or people even domino effect get into the last one as soon as the new one’s out, and they hate the new one, but then the new one when it’s old and when it’s the last one is better and we just, over time, have learned to accept that some people just need a bit of time with it, and fuck, you know, give people 9 minute-long tracks – that’s the sort of thing I would hanker for.” Rob Brown
