RETCON from Audiowarp is an advanced dual voiced sample based synth consisting of 83 sample patches featuring keys, leads, pads and plucks inspired by the electronic duo Boards of Canada. It's refreshingly different compared to efforts from various other sample packs and vst synths.

These sounds have been created via the methods used by the group themselves. Vintage analog synths, 4-tracks, valve amps even VHS recorders were used to create a sample bank more authentic than anything we've heard before.

These sounds have a dirty, dusty, and dream like quality just like that elusive Boards of Canada sound. With our samples nothing is virtual, everything is real.

After the amazing success of the BOCS series we're back due to popular demand. For the first time users can blend together sample banks from all three of the BOCS synths plus we've added 28 completely new sample banks into the mix offering more sounds and more variety.


Retcon consists of a six unique instrument pages including a dual voice editor, a dual filter editor, insert effects for both voices, an options page, modulations effects and finally a step sequencer all organised by colour within an incredible, unique hexagon themed interface. With this awesome blend functionality you now have the ability to create a vast array of new sounds tailored to your individual needs.

The UI design is pretty cool. I would be concerned that it almost gives the impression it's an official product and may cause legal issues. Maybe I'm overthinking.

For shame!

This sample based synth is based on the BOCS series. They were endorsed by Anders Tentemoller and has been used by Grammy and Bafta award winners. Sounds&gear.com gave the series 4.5/5. The BOCS series was greeted with an amazing response when we previously posted it on the Twoism site. We respect & value your opinions but we and countless others politely disagree that it's 'junk'
For those that work in the professional industry the BOCS series has been much loved and we're sure Retcon will push the love even further. Thanks!

This makes me sad. Get a second hand tape machine and a cheap/free digital mono synth (or even better an old hardware one), one or two nice Chorus/Reverb pedals and you're set for creating your own sounds. I don't think I could live with hearing these sounds in my own tracks.

Also, dear AudioWarp, Twoism does not care for Grammys or Baftas from what I've gathered. And being endorsed by Trentemøller doesn't really seem like more than a cashgrab for publicity. Just my opinion though.

If you check the previous threads regarding BOCS their are plenty of people of Twoism that DO care about a product deemed good enough in quality from high end professionals. Surely having a seal of approval counts when you're thinking of buying a product?

We have extensively used a vast number of different analog synths. Not everyone has the space nor the finances to use the instruments we've had at our disposal. The sounds found in Retcon are of an extremely high quality. Retcon and BOCS have been 2-3 years in the making. Their is a lot more to the BoC sound than recording through a few guitar pedals and recording on to tape.

What we are suggesting is that due to the amazing level of requests for such a product is that their is a home for sample based synths such as Retcon. If that's not your preferred method of sound construction then so be it but it is for many others (including top level award winning professionals) and we feel it's unfair to criticize others for going down this route. Variety is the spice of life!

I wasn't meaning to criticize anyone, as I said that's just my opinion. I prefer to hear handmade, intricate self-formed treehouse resin smelling tunes but that's just, as stated, my opinion. Sorry for the cashgrab remark, I don't think that's entirely justified.
The product itself probably makes some lush sounds but what I'm getting at here is that for everyone there's a different process on getting their own vibes and sounds into their workflow - this seems to skip parts of that. As you said, there's a lot more to the BOC sound than recording through a few pedals and going on tape – exactly the steps after that is what I wish more people would get into.

No worries at all! Some people aren't experienced or aware of these methods of sound design. Retcon represents the advanced end of this spectrum but hopefully Retcon can help introduce new people to BoC and the nature of their craft

Hey no worries at all and thanks for the well wishes.

I like the sound, but this is far to expensive for me.

I'm gonna try that free one Cupz mentioned and learn how to use it.

We've priced this pretty cheap compared to similar sample based synths. Have you tried any of the BOCS synths? Volume 1 is virtually free. Their are some great plugins for free and I won't get started on the impact of people expecting professional quality at no cost as it's a case of each to their own but in our opinion that free synth Cupz mentioned doesn't even touch the sides in quality when compared to Retcon and the BOCS series. Just do a comparison with the core sounds, let alone the six page dual effects, filter, voice, modulation, effects, voice and sequencer. Just our opinion!

Dude, you've forgotten me. I've purchased, everything you've put out so far since you announced BOCS here. It's good quality sounds and I like playing with them.

I think you misunderstand, though, that I'm flat broke right now. I can't buy a chocolate bar right now and I have to save up for necessities once I do get some money. Parenthesis: Disability pensions suck and I want to get a damn job. So it's not cheap for me at all. Free synths it is. At least for the time being.

Forgive me for being blunt, but I just came off of codeine withdrawals, which really sucked.
