Any awesome/inspiring lyrics you've come across lately?
Here's some I really like:
"She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns"
- Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
"The roof is holding on
by it's fingernails.
Your voice is rapping
on my windowsill"
-Radiohead - Scatterbrain

Hey there. Fixed the typo in the title for you. Might be worth doing a search next time before adding a new topic. We already have this thread here although I'll grant you there were only a few replies

This board is pretty much the dedicated Radiohead forum. I don't know why it's titled This Random Sound.

This Random Sound.
Granddaddy, Viet Cong, Tycho, 2020K, Tangerine Dream, Stars of the Lid, Pye Corner Audio, My Bloody Valentine, RYKARD, not to mention the various 'in house' contributions from the likes of Cupz, Bearhead, et al. That's just on the first page of course. It could be wall to wall Radiohead on page 2, I didn't bother to check.
If you don't like the lyrics posted, perhaps contribute something you do like?

Radiohead doesn't come across here that much, lately ofcourse a bit because of A Moon Shaped Pool.
Oh, and btw, in a topic where good lyrics are being posted, it would be a damn decent shame to not have Radiohead in it.
Street Spirit:
Rows of houses, all bearing down on me
I can feel their blue hands touching me
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
And fade out again and fade out
This machine will, will not communicate
These thoughts and the strain I am under
Be a world child, form a circle
Before we all go under
And fade out again and fade out again
Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
Fade out again
Fade out again
Immerse your soul in love
Immerse your soul in love
True love waits:
I'll drown my beliefs
To have your babies
I'll dress like your niece
And wash your swollen feet
Just don't leave
Don't leave
I'm not living, I'm just killing time
Your tiny hands, your crazy-kitten smile
Just don't leave
Don't leave
And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love lives
On lollipops and crisps
Just don't leave
Don't leave
Let down:
Transport, motorways and tramlines
Starting and then stopping
Taking off and landing
The emptiest of feelings
Disappointed people, clinging on to bottles
When it comes it's so, so, disappointing
Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around
Shell smashed, juices flowing
Wings twitch, legs are going
Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel
One day, I am gonna grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless
Hysterical and
Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around
Let down
Let down
Let down
You know, you know where you are with
You know where you are with
Floor collapsing, falling
Bouncing back and one day, I am gonna grow wings
A chemical reaction (you know where you are)
Hysterical and useless (you know where you are)
Hysterical and (you know where you are)
Let down and hanging around
Crushed like a bug in the ground
Let down and hanging around
Radiohead lyrically wise is of the best bands of all time, in my opinion.

But the thing is that whenever people post lyrics here it's always Radiohead. Why not Tom Waits ? His lyrics are better than Radiohead's and he's just as popular. But for some reason there's a correlation between fans of Boards of Canada and Radiohead that only I seem to have noticed. Compared to the entirety of the world, Radiohead is disproportionately discussed here.

Cue True Love Waits lyrics.
So post some Tom Waits lyrics then? Educate us. I'll be honest, I've never been a huge Waits fan, he kind of passed me by. All I really know was that monologue thing he did about the guy building something in his shed or whatever

Half of the content of his sets is composed of stories he thinks of on the spot, which are usually of dubious veracity.

I'll post something non Radiohead.
These lyrics are devastating in the context of where BW's mind was at the time. In my top 3 of all time favourites. The end is just sublime, pure genius.
"'Til I Die"
I'm a cork on the ocean
Floating over the raging sea
How deep is the ocean?
How deep is the ocean?
I lost my way
Hey hey hey
I'm a rock in a landslide
Rolling over the mountainside
How deep is the valley?
How deep is the valley?
It kills my soul
Hey hey hey
I'm a leaf on a windy day
Pretty soon I'll be blown away
How long will the wind blow?
How long will the wind blow?
Ohhhh
Until I die
Until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die
These things I'll be until I die

I think I've posted about Tom Waits before,
but it doesn't matter, I feel you're looking for something else,
either here are two of my favourite stanzas from one of my favourite songs of all time;
"Oh, I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me
You said, "Love is touching souls"
Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet"

"Here in my humble room at night
I often wonder what goes on out there
what makes them run so scared
I often stare
at the people passing by
but they can't see me through my window shades
it's like I'm not even there"
Private Life - Oingo Boingo
"I never was a punk
I never shot junk
I never even tried
counter-cultre passed me right by
...
This is where it all begins
on the outside looking in
looking in at you
I'm just an alien through and through
tryin' to make believe I'm you"
On the Outside - Oingo Boingo
"Now I know I had something to say
but the problem is to say something
uh, you gotta say it
...
Well I like to know what I'm doing when I do it
and I do what I'm doing 'cause I don't know what to do
when I'm not doing it"
Factory - Wall of Voodoo
"She stands twelve feet above the flood
She stares
Alone
Across the water
The loneliness grows and slowly
Fills her frozen body
Sliding downwards
One by one her senses die
The memories fade
And leave her eyes
Still seeing worlds that never were
And one by one the bright birds leave her"
The Drowning Man - The Cure
"Someone took a bath
with Mr. Bubble
Middle name
must be trouble"
Who Was That? - Deee-Lite
"What do you want from me?
are you trying to punish me?
punish me for loving you,
punish me for giving to you
punish me for nothing I do
punish me for nothing
you punish me for nothing, for nothing
Out amongst the walking wounded,
every face on every bus
is you and me and him and her
and nothing can replace the us I knew
nothing can replace the us I knew"
Walking Wounded - Everything But The Girl
"Could you be dead?
You always were two steps ahead, of everyone
We'd walk behind while you would run"
Missing - Everything But The Girl
"I called you from the hotel phone
I haven't dialed this code before
I'm sleeping later and waking later
I'm eating less and thinking more
And how am I without you?
Am I more myself or less myself?
I feel younger, louder
Like I don't always connect
Like I don't ever connect"
...
"I'll put my suitcase here for now
I'll turn the TV to the bed
But if no one calls and I don't speak all day
Do I disappear?
And look at me without you
I'm quite proud of myself
I feel reckless, clumsy
Like I'm making a mistake
A really big mistake"
Single - Everything But The Girl

The Private Life I'm most enamoured with is Grace Jones' song, even though it's a cover of a Chrissie and The Pretenders original.
"Your private life drama baby leave me out.
J'ai les glands with your theatrics
Your acting's a drag
It's o.k. on TV 'cause you can turn it off
But don't try me
Yes your marriage is a tragedy
But it's not my concern
I'm very superficial I hate anything official.
Your private life drama baby leave me out.
Your sentimental gestures only bore me to death
You've made a desperate appeal now save your breath
Attachment to obligation through guilt and regret
Shit that's so wet
And your sex life complications are not my fascinations.
Your private life drama baby leave me out.
You asked me for advice I said use the door
But you're still clinging to somebody you deplore
And now you want to use me for emotional blackmail
I just feel pity when you lie, contempt when you cry."

There's a time for everyone
If they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope
Moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason
To the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager
Beats in time with yours

Frank Ocean - Nikes
I think you might have to be in a certain mood to feel or relate to the verses. If I take the time, the song opens itself up to be so much more vivid and visceral. Also, in both production and structure I really find it fascinating.
(There's an effortless and soulful flow into the bargain as well!)

Here are a few from my beloved Jason Molina:
"The real truth about it is there ain't no end to the desert I'll cross
I've really known it all along
Mama here comes midnight with the dead moon in its jaws
Must be the big star about to fall" - from Farewell Transmission
"No matter how dark the storm gets overhead
They say someone's watching from the calm at the edge
What about us when we're down here in it
We gotta watch our own backs
But if you do see that golden light
That it shines in its fiery eye
Go on and catch it while you can" - from Didn't It Rain
"When I die
Put my bones in an empty street
To remind me how it used to be
Don't write my name on stone
Bring a Coleman lantern and a radio
A Cleveland game and two fishing poles
And watch with me from the shore" - from Blue Factory Flame

oh, and also:
"Shelter me from the powder and the finger
Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger
Just think of me as one you'd never figured
Would fade away so young
With so much left undone
Remember me to my love
I know I'll miss her" - from Neil Young's Powderfinger
