Yeah, someone working on the show obviously is a fan. Probably my favorite instance of this was them playing Gemini when Jeremy was driving around Chernobyl. Obviously fits the post-apocalyptic feel.

The music for that show in general is pretty damn good.

But seriously though, my face always brightens when I hear BoC playing in the background of Top Gear. They seem to show up in quite a few BBC TV shows (I distinctly recall hearing them many times in The Real Hustle), probably because the BBC can afford the rights to basically any music they want lol

BOC used to appear a lot on Mind, Body and Kick Ass Moves. I think pretty much every episode. That was on the BBC too if I remember correctly.

I think it is just the middle group that certain television shows can go through to obtain licenses to media distribution of certain tracks. It likely makes the process infinitely easier than constantly directly writing to different labels for permission. It also makes it more lucrative for the label. Provide tracks for the list, set different default pricing based on the type of media they want to use said track for and offer the company a commission on all tracks that have their media copyright contracts sourced through them.

The fact that 'Top Gear Cues' is listed with every other track in their collection is interesting to say the least.

What part of the audio or sound design would 'cues' encompass?

I am guessing this literally means that some of the suspenseful or ambience building music used in Top Gear that isn't ascribed to a particular artist could well be the work of Boards of Canada. Marcus is credited with some interesting sound design on a car advert that I recall, so this isn't unusual.

It's true Top Gear have used Gemini and some other BoC music, but could this mean they composed a cue especially for Top Gear not yet known to be by them?

I first read the title of the topic as "top gear used by BOC" or sth along those lines. I need some sleep...
