Why would Warp release the track listing...

...so long in advance of the release? It's so obviously going to lead to a bunch of convincing-looking fakes. Unless that was the plan? This would do two things I can think of - 1) Clear up all the fakers in one fell swoop, when they release the real album, with different track names, and 2) Make for a lot of 'is it or isn't it?' talk pre-release, and even more after the release of the real thing. Just a thought...

I agree. They need no publicity or reviews to help sell the albums. I think Warp fucked up on sending copies to reviewers/radio stations early, since there's a good reason that lead to the leak. I know at least the Wire recieved a copy.

i didn't know warp sent out copies. if that's true, i think that's quite stupid because that way music always gets leaked out. i wonder what boc' themselves (would) think of this.

Every label send out promos for radiostations and magazines to promote the music.

I think warp should have just released that track on Bleep, Oscars ... (good track too, I may add), and had that be the only promotion till the album officially releases. I think the fakes are funny. The fact that people on SLSK are eating the fakes up is enough of a sign that people have heard of the album and are anxiously seeking it. Small labels need to send out promos to radio stations and reviewers to get adequate attention and press, but boc ...

I was also thinking this. Maybe Boc actually created fakes to avoid leaking the real copy? Probably not, but a lot of people seem dissapointed with the album. I've heard 3 tracks and they all sounded pretty fucking good!
